a Company kept ringing my mobile called Communications Direct, trying to sell me a mobile phone.I eventually registered with tps for their mobile service, having politely asked them to take my number of their database (slammed the phone down on me),asked a second time and they said they would remove me.(they rang me 6 or 7 times).

Remember though TPS can stop Sales calls,if the offending Company is registered with them, but NOT Marketing calls.

We've been with TPS for quite a few years now. We used to get loads of calls. Since being registered, we get maybe one call every six months (until this last dodgy company kept calling).

The problem is that there are some companies out there still using the phone book for contacting people. Normally any mention of TPS to them ends with them putting the phone down. I always play these calls along before mentioning TPS, getting as much info as possible. The TPS site has a section where you can report rogue calls. I always do this.

But their is no such numbering range that starts 0717. You probaly mean 07017. Any numbers that start 070 cost an arm and a leg to call.

Due to these scams where the reciever of the call illegaly recieves a a share of the call.O2 have barred access to some of these numbers.

Funnily enough i just got one from

07028 7xxxxx. If i had rung it back it would have cost me 50p a minute. As calls to these numbers are NOT included in your inclusive x-net minutes.

    Code: 070 287
    Type: Mobile
    Use: Personal
    Operator: COLT
Tariff Band: Personal Numbers 50p (pn2) (inc VAT)
    Service: Personal

I have to ask why anyone bothers calling back a 'missed' call's number - unless they recognise the number as F&F?

Hardly a Money Saving procedure!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Dear Annoying Telesales Company,

Please register with us, the TPS, so that we can force you to stop calling people randomly and stand in the way of your sales. This is entirely voluntary and there is no obligation for you to join us - in which case you can continue to annoy customers by phone.

    Thanks,

    TPS

    What a joke!!!! :naughty: :rotfl:

That's not true. TPS covers all telemarketing calls. From their site:

"The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations, including charities and voluntary organisations who may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive

Under Government legislation introduced on 1st May 1999 and replaced on 11th December 2003 by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, it is unlawful to make unsolicited direct marketing calls to individuals who have indicated that they do not want to receive such calls."

It covers all direct marketing calls originating in this country and it is not voluntary, but backed by law.

I find that if we complain to them when they call and keep them on the phone works very well, because their time is wasted when they could be fleecing some poor sucker, so they won't be in a hurry to call you back and will take your number off their list.

I'm on tps and the nuisance calls I used to get have decreased dramatically.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

We've been ex-directory and TPS registered for years and it has generally worked well for us, but over the past year we've started to notice a big increase in the number of nuisance calls we get, often ten or so in a couple of weeks from the same number.
