Are you running sfc /scannow with your Installation CD in the drive?
The local installation media is corrupted by the looks of it
What happens if you navigate to c:\program files\internet explorer......
Is there an iexplore.exe?
Turn on hidden files aswell, I had an iexplore.exe.exe because I had been infected with a malware and it wasn't fixed, after malware removed. Just another thought.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

I don't have a disc, there's a recovery partition which does a factory reset that I'm trying to avoid.
There is the usual iexplore.exe file in that folder and I can't see another one with a similar name.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Have you tried doing a 'restore' to before problem occurred?
Good luck0 -
I've seen this a few times, try the "no add-ons" first. If it works, it is most likely to be a toolbar you have installed. Try uninstalling google toolbar and any other toolbar from add/remove programs too.0

Browntoa - as far as I know, they didn't install any add-ons, but I'll check. I didn't know about the reset option so I'll try that when I'm next over there.
Libra10 - Tried restoring back to a few weeks ago (some Windows update or other) but still no joy so I undid the restore.
My (inexperienced) eye is drawn to the problem with the Windows sidebar as that isn't showing either. Could they be connected?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

It's the Windows sidebar which made me think your local files are corrupt from your above errors
Have you looked at the local computer event logs, in Windows XP it can be accessed by going to following
start - run - compmgmt.msc
It should be the same for Vista. Personally I'd be tempted to clear (save first rather) all event logs (system and app) then try sfc.exe /scannow again, and when it finds the error see what appears in event logs. What errors it generates.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them
