On another forum people are saying this means the car has been cloned
But surely if it was cloned then there would be someone registered on the dvla agaisnt the cars number plate?
Plus, surely if it was cloned then i wouldnt lose the car as when I bought it the updated V5 was sent to me in my name with that exact registration?
So if its been cloned AFTER I bought it then the car is definately mine right?
I worked at DVLA for 5 years and I'd guess around 98% of the time the situation you have stated in your first post was as a result of the explanation I gave you. I would deal with 10+ calls on this a week.
If there is any dodgy about it then DVLA will investigate further and may call vehicle for an inspection. If you are that worried, get looking for the logbook you have lost so that you can check VIN no against vehicle. But all you can do for now is wait fro DVLA to investigate.

Warning, some users may find this upsetting.
Its transpired that the letter I sent the DVLA to scrap my old e36 4 door 3 series was mistaken for my newer 3 series. Even though the letter was entitled P178 XYZ refering to the old car.
That explains why they sent me a SORN form in feb for it at which point I resent the initial letter!!!
Anyway, all sorted now though.
PS. The e36 car was bought in 2007 on ebay, taxed (£210) and MOT'd for £680. I then sold it Jan 2009 as scrap, untaxed for £500. So really, I sold it at a profit 2 years later. Amazing huh.0 -
Oh and a quick search of completed auctions on ebay shows taxed / Mot'd 4 door 3 series bmw still selling at £700 almost 4 years later. Weird.0

I know you're trying to continue an argument with a few people in a previous thread but a taxed MOT'd car for £700 is hardly a surprise - it's about the right price point for ANY car of a certain age with tax and test .......... what's unusual?0 -

The fact that 4 years later it wasnt the 51 plate bmws that were then worth £700... it was still just the older generation P plates etc....0 -

Yeah but £700 is a ballpark figure for a car that runs and has tax and test of any make of any age - especially with scrappage eroding the market. You'll find P reg Corsas for the same money.0
