DVLA Say Im not the Registered Keeper?
Im concerned.
Bought a car in Feb 2009 and promptly recived the updated V5 with my details. Taxed the car 2 months later in April 09.
Fast forward 12 months and as I hadnt recieved a reminder for renewing the tax I called the DVLA.
They say the vehicle is not registered to anyone. That shortly after I was added to the logbook I was removed shortly after?!?! They said it could be an adim error but it will take up to 20 days to investigate?
They say they will check their records to find the document they recieved to say i was no longer the owner!!!
Im worried!! Can I lose the vehicle?!?!

No dont worry its obviously DVLA`s c**k up being as they sent you the V5 with your details in the first place
Trouble is they are not what you call quick at sorting things outHave a nice day0 -
Try not to worry it's a common-ish error that can occur (I'm ex DVLA).
What happens is if you buy car from dealer they send off the front page of logbook to update you as new keeper (hence you getting the logbook). But at the same time the previous owner who part ex'd the car sends off his slip from the logbook. If this has been delayed for whatever reason, and it updates after yours, then it would remove you as the keeper, and there would be no current keeper.
The person you spoke to would have raised an inquiry with the relevant dept to check the microfilm copy of the part of the logbook that set the disposal to be sure that this is what has happened (which can be confirmed by the name on slip or ref code). This takes 10-14 days.
If the reason is the one I've explained then there should be no problem with it being sorted out. You will either get a new logbook or a letter explaining it's all sorted.
Like I said it's not an unusual occurance so try not to worry!

I seem to be having no luck right now! pfft!
I was concerned some form of fraud may have occured but I suppose the vehicle is currently not registered to anyone which is a plus.
Annoyingly though the tax is due 30/04/10... so they better hurry up and resolve this!
Will I have to pay the £25 for the replacement V5?0 -
No. The registered keeper does not mean the owner of the vehicle. As long as you bought the car from someone that was theirs to sell then you are the owner.
I must add though... when you buy from small dealers technically they are not the registered keepers... the logbooks normally show the owners who traded the car in to them as being the registered keepers?
How exactly would you prove that the car was owned by the garage you bought it from when really a lot of cars pass through quickly?0 -

You can still tax it without it being resolved. You just need to use your logbook, insurance and MOT (if required). However you will not be able to tax online/by phone, only at Post Office or DVLA Office. This is because the electronic system will no longer recognise your logbook ref no, but it will be fine at PO.
And, no you do not need to pay anything.

I cant find the logbook now
I definately remember recieving it though last year because it showed the car to have had 7 owners which was alarming!!

Hopefully then the DVLA will send you a replacement one out once issue is resolved.
However if they don't send one and you have lost it then unless you have the green slip new keeper's supplement from the logbook (which you should have got when you bought the vehicle) then you may have to pay for the replacement.

On another forum people are saying this means the car has been cloned
But surely if it was cloned then there would be someone registered on the dvla agaisnt the cars number plate?
Plus, surely if it was cloned then i wouldnt lose the car as when I bought it the updated V5 was sent to me in my name with that exact registration?
So if its been cloned AFTER I bought it then the car is definately mine right?0
