What to send ? ?

198 Posts
Hi, just after some suggestions please. I have seen older posts suggesting what is best to send out to Afghan, but with facilities improving [to some extent] over there, i'm not sure what's best to send, i.e what they can't get.
I'm hoping there are some people out there who can advise me of the best things to send out to our son, I've been waiting for him to ring to ask him what he needs, but no such luck!
All suggestions appreciated
Thanks

E-blueys - These are free - register on the website, and you can send an e-mail type communication which is printed off rather like a pay slip and delivered to the person, photos can be uploaded and added too. - These sometimes can get delivered within hours of being written, so are great for keeping in touch.

im sure you understand the beliefs and religion of the countries we visit, and any pre-deployment briefs would of highlighted this.
I used to send magazines (no naughty ones he had a laptop for that!). Lots of food stuff, crisps, biscuits, something that can be shared around always went down well.
I didn't really send any toiletries as he could get everything he needed where he was based anyway. I suppose it depends on where they are and what they are doing as to what they need.
Some people like to send things like ketchup or brown sauce.
Your mail went to RAF Northolt just outside london, where it was sorted and transferred to RAF Brize Norton where it was probably put onto an aircraft bound for Afgan.
BFPO at RAF Northolt decide how the items are sent, so if its light and small, its in the airmail bag. If its bulky and heavy, it might be on the back of a donkey.
Maybe the helium made the whole package lighter..
Hope this helps,
