My landy dress let down.

So I went to my sisters today to try on my dress and I am disappointed about some bits.
Dont get me wrong its a lovely dress and amazing as they have made it just from a photo but there is faults with it that Im just not happy about.
There is lose threads poking out in places (which isnt a big deal)
The way they have gathered the front of the skirt on the left side for the hip decoration, has left the hem of it uneven and too short to wear heels with it. (This could be because when i tried it on it wasnt with a petticoat so just laid flat against my legs)
The one that has annoyed me the most is that I paid for 'best quaility' and asked what this included and was told that it was the best taffatta and that there would be 60pieces crystals on the top decoration and hips decoration. The fabric is lovely but there isnt any crystals on it at all. They've used beads and sequins instead
I have all the emails Ive sent to them and Im waiting for a petticoat to come from ebay so I can try the dress on again and see if this sorts out the hem.
But how can I broach landy about getting some of my money back as its clearly not 'best quaility'. I havent got any photos to show you what Its like but I will get some soon.
All help and advice will be greatly appreciated
edit: also there is a rubber lining around the top of the dress to keep it from slipping but for the 15mins i was wearing it, it really rubbed by my armpits and i got massive red marks anybody know how to stop it from rubbing so much?

Oh, sweetheart.
Thing is, best quality to them may be just that. Some taffetas they use as the fashion fabric, I use for lining.
A photo I have seen recently of a finished gown, you could see the hemline of the lining through the top fabric!! Taffeta can come at bottom price £2.99 and top synthetic price £7-10.
To use a lower end taffeta is suitable for bridesmaids, but something as luxurious as a wedding gown needs to be high quality.
I'm not really sure what you can do. There is no trade description as your opinion will differ from theirs.0 -

When the dress I received from her was awful (I got married 18 months ago) I emailed with photos and pointed everything out to her bit by bit, she offered to re make it, which they did, and it was an improvement but still rubbish and in my opinion unwearable. It went on so long that it was out of time for a refund via Paypal, and she knew it because she told me so, and all other efforts to get a refund didn't get anywhere, even claiming on my credit card. The customer service was awful and at the time I did write a long post on here about it, to try and balance out all the rave reviews about her.
I would take photos, email her and quote or attach the emails between you where certain things are mentioned which are now wrong, so she can see what she said and agreed to, describe everything that is wrong with a photo so she can see, and ask her to either re-make it, or if there is no time then to refund you. At the time I ordered I remember it said on her website that if you are unhappy with the dress then they will refund or remake it, not sure if that's still the case.
I hope you get it sorted, I really feel your pain on this!0 -
I sent an email and got the reply that the dress maker did use crystals and to have a good look. I can't do this til my sister is back from visiting her husbands family but I will take photos of it and email it to them. I also got my petticoat in the post today so I will be able to see if it sorts out the hem.
Thanks for all your help:kisses2: Getting Married 5th November 2011 :kisses2:0 -

Well it should be really shouldn't it? Quality control and all that.Miss_Stellerstar wrote: »The way they have gathered the front of the skirt on the left side for the hip decoration, has left the hem of it uneven and too short to wear heels with it. I may be wrong but if it like this without a petticoat, it will more than likely be worse with. It sounds like the hemline has been finished before the gathering which is really back to front.Miss_Stellerstar wrote: »The one that has annoyed me the most is that I paid for 'best quaility' and asked what this included and was told that it was the best taffatta and that there would be 60pieces crystals on the top decoration and hips decoration. This may be the language barrier. Embelishments fall under many descriptions. They could call irredescent bugle beads crystals!Miss_Stellerstar wrote: »I have all the emails Ive sent to them and Im waiting for a petticoat to come from ebay so I can try the dress on again and see if this sorts out the hem.
As I said, I'd be surprised if it does.Miss_Stellerstar wrote: »edit: also there is a rubber lining around the top of the dress to keep it from slipping but for the 15mins i was wearing it, it really rubbed by my armpits and i got massive red marks anybody know how to stop it from rubbing so much?
What you should have is an internal belt or waist stay which prevents the drag down with many strapless gowns. These rubber things (i imagine like the rubber you find on hold-ups?) are a total waste of time in my opinion.
I know this really isn't what you want to be hearing, but having something made to measure will be their get out clause along with the construction photos you have i assume, said are ok. I do hope you get the matter resolved in a positive way.0 -
If you paid via Paypal and can prove that the work is sub-standard you may be able to get your money back that way. I would wait to see her response to photos and if she is still arguing then start an ebay dispute.
Im afraid that unless you can show that work is sub-standard then you will not win as she has the custom order clause.
Compare the measurements down to the hem with what you sent her. If it is shorter where the gather is then you can prove it isnt what you asked for. Also take photos of any bad seams and the like.
Make sure you start the dispute process before the window closes or you'll have no way to get your money back.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm annoyed with landy too as my dress is long overdue and their communication is carp!0

This is what I am thinking will happen to, but I am going to try with the petticoat so I can take pictures as proof that the hem is uneven with and without netting. I can just see them saying it needs a petticoat in a delaying tactic so I am thinking ahead.lindaatno9 wrote: »This may be the language barrier. Embelishments fall under many descriptions. I know what you mean but I am slightly hopeful as the email said there should be some on and not 'but thats what we meant by crystals'. I wish in hignsight I was more specific in exactly what is was I wanted.lindaatno9 wrote: »What you should have is an internal belt or waist stay which prevents the drag down with many strapless gowns. It does have an elastic band inside to keep it up and things in place as well as the rubber (which is like the hold-up rubber) It would be a nice touch if it didnt irritate me so much.
I wasn't sent any photos of the dress being made just got an email saying we've started making it and when it had been shipped out.
I can live with the dress not being what I had asked for, it is lovely and hopefully all can be fixed with it. I just want some (hopefully most) of my money back which I will need to spend to put right the wrongs.:kisses2: Getting Married 5th November 2011 :kisses2:0 -

I paid through paypal but it wasnt an ebay thing, in fact it wasnt properly through their site either because the dress I wanted wasnt on there so I emailed pics and it went from there.
I paid back in early feb so I think I am going to have to hope that they will refund as I think its been too long for me to open a dispute with paypal.
I only have myself to blame. Im just glad Ive brought it so early so I still have plenty of time to save up and buy another dress if need be.:kisses2: Getting Married 5th November 2011 :kisses2:0 -
Well, I certainly hope you can get something resolved. You can always e mail me some piccys and I can give you a professional opinion if you like.
