Claiming back credit from British Gas?

I’ve recently switch from British Gas to Powergen. Took almost 4 weeks for everything to be sorted and am happy things went. :j

I notice from my bill that I have credit from BG, and was wondering the best way getting this back. I’m I suppose wait or chase this up? Anybody had any experience of this with BG?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! :D

Schedule a callback from the house website and ask them to refund it. Last time I had to claim money back from them, they were able to schedule a transfer to my bank account there and then.
  • You will likely have to ask for it! The goos news is BG are quite good at giving you back what is owed!

They should automatically send you a cheque or pay it into your bank if you have a DD. But calling and asking never does you any harm.

I've never had any trouble with getting back any over payment with BG. Also if you've been overpaying it means that your installments are too high so you can also ask them if they can reduce your monthly direct debit.

Having moved house about 3 months ago, I ended up with 3 utility bills and a phone bill all showing a final credit balance. None of them refunded the money to me automatically - I had to ask for the money in every case. I still haven't got it all back.

Generally speaking if you have a DD setup and leave it open after your final bill has been sent they should refund it into your account.

Masonic I would be pee'd off if they didn't give back my money. I have a similar issue with an online retailer that debitted my account and never sent out the item. Numerous contacts say that it will be sent still waiting. I will just claim it back through the bank and they can deal with it.

How do you actually schedule a callback, I have looked time and time again and I never found the option on house.co.uk.

At the moment I actually have a BG number 1 ringing my mobile everyday (I checked on saynoto0870.com and it said its a BG number) and I have no idea what they want. They never let the phone ring long enough to let me pickup! :)

I wanted to schedule a call back to find out, what the want.. :)

Oh dear, I seem to have sprouted fat fingers and thanked you by mistake. Oh well...

You asked me that question before here and I gave you some detailed instructions. If you still can't find it, I don't know what else to suggest.
