British Gas Aaaaah!

:mad: 14 days ago I received my gas bill, estimated, nothing wrong with that they are often estimated and I pay them. What I'm mad at is that due to poor communication with their employees when I had a meter moved recently the gas man took it away leaving me with no gas, eventually after having to go through the rigmarole of reporting the meter 'stolen' (it was the only way I could get a new meter!!!) we were given a new meter, now my current bill is estimated on my old meter with no acknowledgement of being fitted with new and I have been trying every number connected to British Gas with the same monotonous recordings each telling me I have a wait of 10 - 45 mins even at 7.55pm I'm told I have a 45 min wait and the lines close at 8.00pm:mad: :mad: :mad: Does anyone out there have the phone number to the fat cat at top - but then again he/she probably has a recorded message to listen to - as you can tell I'm really, really fed up with ringing everyday for the past 2 weeks up to 6 times a day and getting nowhere. If someone from British Gas is reading this your motto is "DOING THE RIGHT THING" i would like to ask you to pleaseDO IT RIGHT"

    The Say no to 0870 database has quite a few entries for British Gas. 0116 2503974 is for the "Customer Liason Team"; it says it is for problems with installations. This must be one above "Customer Relations" who can be contacted on 0116 2503315, or at least one particular person can be contacted on that number as I believe that it is a direct line. There is a recording saying that the person on the number has finished their shift. Another number for this department is 0116 2021174.

    Failing that, the Leeds switchboard number is 0113 3381022, Southampton switchboard is 023 80824100, they should be able to put you through to prettymuch anyone.

    There is no need to pay anything for calls to british gas. Just go to the house.co.uk website and use their Callback facility. Whenever I need to speak to them I just set up a callback to my mobile - there's something about this that makes waiting half an hour to speak to someone feel a lot better! :D
  • ive noticed with my dealings with the incompetent british gas that they often say you have a 7 minute wait and have to wait 60. they are a bunch of useless inconsistent, insulting w@nkers with whom i take great displeasure in having to deal with. if you get any hassle from them then ring energywatch on 08459060708. they most certainly will sort it for you.

    The process of bgas updating there records should take no longer then 5 minutes at most. The company I work for we normally ask for the following so if you have them ready will save you alot of running round

    The Gas Meter Serial Number
    The Installed reading (Should be on a tag around the meter)
    The Date of installation
    And a Current reading.

    Should be done straight away and a new bill sent out.

    The number above for energywatch won't get you far as most of the time they ask if you have spoken to the supplier if you say No then they refer you back. However if you feel that strongly by all means goto energywatch and you should see your problem sorted within 10 days.

    Hi, where exactly is this "callback facility" on the website? I have tried like hell to find it on a number of occasions. It must be pretty well hiden.

    With the dodgy URLs the site seems to spit out, it's probably better I just guide you to it... Go to 'Products and Services', click 'Gas, electricity and more', then choose one of the options in the blue boxes, e.g. 'Gas and electricity'. You should see the 'call me' button at the top of the page.
