  • Can't you still cancel the cheque? I remember hearing that you can cancel a cheque even 6 months after it has been cashed by the recipient. Sorry if I'm wrong...

    That's not necessarily true, IMHO.

    You can ask your bank to return to you the cleared cheque. The cleared cheque will have information on the back of it which may show the bank account details of the personal who's stolen your money.

    In any case, you will have sent the cheque to a name and address - check if they really live there (and are on the electoral roll :S) using https://www.b4usearch.com and if so, take them to small claims court.

    Unfortunately not. If that were true no one would ever use a cheque again.
