Hello.
I have an Orange sim card from Spain that i use over there as i find it cheaper than my UK sim.
A few months ago Spain changed a law that meant you had to register PAYG sim cards with a passport to stop terrorism. I found this out when i went over about a year ago and my sim would not work and i couldnt get hold of people as the phone number was stopped.
I got a new one and i have topped it up when i am over there the problem is you have to put money on it within 6 months of the last time you topped up.
I wont be going to Spain before it runs out and i have tried using Orange.es website but it will not let me top up using a credit/debit card so what i would like to know is does anybody know how i can top up my sim from the UK. I have sent an email the Orange in the UK but still waiting for a reply.
Vince.

    @Boohoo,

This winter I found myself in the same position, also with with orange, that due to Spanish Law all sims had to be registered. I spent several hours in the Orange dealers, umpteen copies of my passport. I have had my sim for quite some time, originally it was Amena before they were bought by Orange. Re-check your T&C as from my experience Orange PAYG are valid for 12 months, the 13th month only accepting incoming calls before they expire.

You will not be able to use a British credit card on your Orange Espana online account or direct with customer service. This is the same with my TIM Italia sim card, only here in the UK where you not need to register a sim card and can top up online with non British cards.

    Hello.

I have tried to register with orange.es but you have to be in Spain to sent a text to them to get a password to enable you to log on to the website.
When i got my old sim card from somebody on ebay called drcall he said that he can top up in Spain if needed but i think he must of changed to another company as i cant find him on ebay.
As i have over 20 euros on the sim i am relunctant to let it expire.
I have had a look at the t&c but they are in spanish and on the website i cant seem to find anything that says 6 months or 12 months for it to expire.

There are some companies which resell foreign SIM cards, so I wondered if it's worth approaching one of these. In a brief search just now I found one which offers to top up €5 and charge you a €5 fee on top, and there are probably others.

But I also found more than one opinion that the Orange Spain SIM stays valid for 12 months, e.g. http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/spain.html

@Redux is correct there are some web sites that offer to top up foreign payg sims, at a price. I have looked at some of them but would be a little wary of giving my card details.

I used 'drcall' to purchase my Italian sim, you are correct he does not trade on ebay anymore. I think it could be due to the terrorism laws having an effect on sim cards sales, which we both have experience, in Spain & Italy.

To get an Orange Espana online acount you have to call customer services whilst in Spain, they do have English speakers but you have to hang on for ages.
  • There are some site which you can top up with foreign credit card.
But unfortunately I am not allowed to show the link because
    I am a new user.
I give the link when I am allowed.

They don't cover all the countries but they do Spain.
Fortunately most of the Spanish operators are present.
International credit cards are available ( Visa and Master )
I topped up Lithuanian Tele2 using this site from Japan.

You will be able to top up Orange.es from UK, I think.
    Sincerely yours
