I have just had a new TV (with Freeview) delivered and although previously informed that it would work with Virgin, I now find that it is not compatible and I can only receive the usual BBC1, BBC2, ITV, etc.

Virgin now inform me that they are not intending changing the cable to fibre optic in this area, and therefore I will need to either move to Sky or buy a special arial.

Well then the person you spoke to in VM is a 24 carat moron & IMHO,needs taken outback & re-educated with a big F O Stick!!!
He clearly does not know what the heck he is on about &,as a CS Rep,he f'in well should!

NTL's cable based service IS fibre Optic from the headend (main transmission site) to the Multiplexer (Mux)/Distrabution Amplifier (DA) that your Street Cabinet (DP) that the cable from your home to the DP is connected to.
From the DA/Mux it is changed to copper until it reaches your home.

You cannot run a Freeview or Freesat service of any kind of VM's TV signal,it's not possible.
VM & Sky's signal is of a different type in laymans terms than that used by Freeview, you need a Freeview (terrestrial) airial.

    HTH,
Spike (ex NTL/VM & Sky Engineer)

    Your welcome,
Forgot to add that the fibre optic to the Mux ends no more that 1/4 mile from your home.
    FYI,This is a Mx/DA set up:

  • Hi

I have a Freeview TV and used to use the 'source' button to switch between Freeview and Virgin television. Freeview is DTV and I have Virgin as the next source. Certainly gives me lots of TV choice!

I now watch and record them using a TV card and Imaging DVR. This lets me pause live TV, rewind live TV and record several channels at once. I find the television companies put all the programmes I want to watch at the same time.

To watch on your large TV, select 'source' again and select 'PC'.

They have TV card information on their website.
