Thanks, although these tables don't make much sense. The current scenario is that my son is one next week, and we earn no more than 35,000. But we get no help at all towards the £78 a week childcare costs we have. According to the table, we'd get help now wouldn't we?

the table shows that with 1 child over 1 and a household income of £35k not receive any help if the childcare costs unless they were over £90 per week
the £545 it shows is the same payment as having no childcare costs

for example as a very rough estimate if the costs were £175 per week you could get £60 per week towards the cost (on top of the £10ish child tax credits)...you would need to play around with more accurate numbers

Give them a ring, i rang up about a change in the amount i paid in childcare and then my payments went down by £90 per week even though my childcare had gone up. When i rang they told me that was correct but after speaking to their manager i was told they hadnt put my childcare was registerd. She updated it and i had my new payments sorted within a week

have a look through entitled to...looking at some rough figs it looks like that, from when he is one the tax credits would be £10.50 a week but with £117 per week childcare it increases to £22 although it may be more if your income last year was less than the £35k as tax credits work off last years income

I did earn much less last year as I was on maternity leave. Will look into, although I hate relying on these calculators as I've never had a result be close to what I actually get. I'd hate o enrol him in another day at nursery and then not actually get any help towards it still.

The reason i'm considering it is becuase i pay my folks £20 to look after him one of the days (petrol money as it's a 60 mile round trip and i little bit to take lo out), if i get help towards costs it may be worth putting hiim in nursery for the extra day.

i wish they could tell me exactly how much id get if he i did increase the nursery costs.

I used childminders as they were almost half the cost of a nursery, plus there was no high turnover of staff to confuse the child and my child was in a family atmosphere- my CM could even have them if they were slightly unwell, which the nursery couldn't/wouldn't do because if risk to the other children they cared for.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

No I'm evenmore confused than ever.

I sent off my tax credits renewal a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything back. I checked my bank account this morningto see how this months finances were going and they've deposited 2 amounts totalling £1377!!

Could this mean that I was underpaid last year or something? Hopefully I'll get a letter explaining soon.

Looks like you really need to call them and ask questions. Have you internet banking? Might be worth keeping a closer eye on things so you can work out a pattern.
I've been on and off Working Tax credits since my son was born 4 years ago, and they still never fail to baffle me!

There's no way this is going to be an ongoing trend. I usually get £60 a month!
