Just want to say that you do not have to prove he doesn't live there. The onus is on the debt collectors to prove that they have the correct details.

If they come knocking, don't answer the door. Simply tell them that he no longer lives there, and no, you don't know where he now lives. As the debt is not in your name, they have no rights to any further information from you, nor gain they force entry your property. They will most likely try to tell you otherwise, but just ignore it.

If you want to get them to stop hassling you, there is a template letter (over on the DFW board I think) that you can send them advising them that you are not the debtor, the debtor no longer lives here, stop contacting me etc. It also quotes the legislation in place to stop debt collectors from harrassing you, and quotes that you will go to the ombudsman if they do not comply.

There is a chance that they will still try again after this. That is when you need to put a complaint into the ombudsman.

For more info on this, I would head over to the DFW board. There are a lot of experts over there.

    Good luck :)

Think I would be tempted to put all his clothes in black bin bags - but first of all, I'd place a couple prawn in the toes of the paiir of socks that I would put, neatly rolled in a ball, in the bottome of each bag! ;o)

God I know the feeling, did exactly this for my ex, he owed me over £10,0000, supported him starting his new business over a 3-year period - a new business which seemed to mostly involve looking at !!!!!! sites all day every day.

The final straw for me was when he didn't buy me anything for my birthday because he couldn't afford it, but I paid for us to go away for the weekend anyway, during which he bought himself a new jumper and shirt costing £75!!! And when I commented on this (quite calmly I thought, under the circumstances), he laughed and said that every time he wore it we could laugh and tell everyone that he was wearing MY birthday present

Sometimes we women take a long time to get the message, but well done you for finally getting there and tipping him out. If I were you, I would definitely check your credit report just in case. Forget about the money he owes you, you'll never see it and it's not worth the stress of worrying about it, but at least you won't lose any more on him.

Personally, I would forget about the letter until he is gone. And once I had remembered, I would open it to find the sender and send it back with a covering letter, saying that this had been handed to the children, but the addressee has left without a forwarding address and you regret you are unable to assist further.

At least that way you don't accept responsibility for passing any mail forward.

Don't forget to change the locks.

well I never gave him the letter, I took it back to work telephoned the company and told them I had no clue where he was headed, faxed them a letter/copy of my utility bill and asked them to persue him by other means, also then asked them for their procedure on complaints as I think they might find leaving a letter with a minor is not within the law.

He has collected his stuff so now i can at least drive home with my roof down, as I didn't have room to stuff another sock into my boot :-) and the sun is down, happy days, don't get me wrong I will miss him, but not the hassle......

Im meeting a millionaire with only 2 months to live next time :-)

I asked him where to forward his mail onto, but he said he would arrange a re-direction, not sure that he will though...

oh well its Friday, sun is shining and I have two great kids to go home to :-) xx

Sorry but if there is anything of any value in his possessions I would hang on to them...He owes you money then you can use his valuables as a bargaining tool....he pays up some of the money to get his stuff back.

Sounds like a recipe for a domestic. If someone is really worth getting rid of, it is not worth keeping their stuff to bargain with

Might you also wish to consider changing the lock/s?
    :A
  • Including the locks on the car, shed, kids' bikes, windows, everything....
