I would possibly recommend you checking your statements in more detail in future.
I would wait and see what they say about refunding all the charges, there argument will be you would have been nofied of the charges etc.
If you click on view statements via screen you can see upto 6 years of statments plus also if you click on view pre advice of interest and charges on screen you would have been able to see the dates the charges will debit your account. You should make yourself familiar with the options available online
Thank you so muchI had no idea you could go that far back, I have worked out that they have been charging me since December 2008 (when the account was opened) and owe me £118.15
To the posts above; after going through all the documents NatWest have ever sent me (took some time!) I did find a booklet "Welcome to Advantage Blue" along with a 2 for 1 cinema ticket - though I also have my application approval letter which states all the account details and nothing about Advantage Blue
I will be heading down to my local branch on Monday to sort this out :j0 -
ProvidaGroup1 wrote: »don't seem to be able to view more then 12 months back, are you with Natwest? I just get "Please enter a date range less than 12 months" and if going over "Date range must be within 12 months"... very strange.
You can't view more than 12 months at a time, but you can view >12 months ago. So if you were to try 1 January 2009 to now that wouldn't work (15 months), but if you put the date range as 1 Jan 2009 to 31 Dec 2009 that would work.
You can also view the actual monthly statements going back for ages if you go to Statements -> View Bank Statements on Screen.0 -

Unfortunately I think you will be extremely lucky to get anything back, you opened the account online so it hasnt been mis-sold by a member of staff and you havent bothered to look at your statements for a year.
Im not sure what you expect the branch to do.0 -

I expect a full refund of £118.15 thank you very much NatWest!
The reason for not thoroughly checking my statements is as I said above, I only use this account for money coming in, which is then transferred to my main account (also with NatWest)
Ok fair enough, I accept that I'm *partly* to blame for not checking my statements however at the time my account was opened I was 16 so have absolutely no use for "Travel Insurance" or "Mobile Insurance" or "Car Breakdown" or "Accidental Death Cover" - When applying for the account I will not have knowingly opted for something that would cost me £6.95 per month.
NatWest are an utter disgrace for not telling me about this service, surely they can see that I have never ever used a single part of it and would at least send me a letter about it!

Please learn the lesson to check everything you sign up to very carefully in future though - and always check your bank statements!
Good luck.0 -

Nightmare.
As far as I am aware the bank branches have no authorisation for the amount you will ask them back so as Opinions4u has pointed out but there is one question I have for anyone who works for natwest.

Where are the terms and conditions for the Advantage Blue account?
This says about the £6.95 but not the minimum age

I think you're as much to blame. You will have accepted the T&Cs and even admitted you received the welcome material.ProvidaGroup1 wrote: »at the time my account was opened I was 16 so have absolutely no use for "Travel Insurance" or "Mobile Insurance" or "Car Breakdown" or "Accidental Death Cover"
Ohhh i wasnt aware 16 year olds didnt travel! I had additional insurance for school trips over and above the minimum, travelled with grandparents etc. Mobile Insurance? Nearly every 16 year old I know has a PAYG.
Breakdown Insurance... would this have covered the moped you may have had? ok - prob not.
Death - Depends on your assets and exactly what the cover wasProvidaGroup1 wrote: »surely they can see that I have never ever used a single part of it and would at least send me a letter about it!
How on earth could they see that? They have insured your mobile, you just havent lost or claimed for it... They have also insurance your travel arrangements... How do they know you havent been around the world a few times?
No harm in trying to get a goodwill payment back, but this is well after the horse has bolted and if it were my decision you probably wouldnt get a penny. Sorry0 -

Do any other banks do the same? If so, it's sharp practice and should be stopped.0 -

But they did tell you. They sent you a leaflet about it. You've admitted it yourself.0
