I second the possiblity that a new card was intercepted from your mail and used to make these withdrawals.
Hope they actively pursue this rather than simply refunding the money - if they have CCTV they should be able to catch the person, and stop this happening to someone else!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
These replacement cards come ready activated as well so you or anyone else just can start using them, unlike when its their money at risk on the Santander Zero card and you have to ring up to activate and get the speil about protection plans.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
If Santander have sent me a new card which has been intercepted I doubt it would have had my DOB on the paperwork anywhere so I will be interested to find out what is on those withdrawal slips.
I have credit cards sent to the house with no problem so it is worrying to think someone may have got to the new card before me. I have known my postman for years so unless it is at the sorting office?
If it is the case that this has happened because of an intercepted card then surely this is a loophole in Santander's security and may happen to many more people?0 -
With a small amount of effort, it can be very easy for someone to find your date of birth.chillinbloke wrote: »If Santander have sent me a new card which has been intercepted I doubt it would have had my DOB on the paperwork anywhere so I will be interested to find out what is on those withdrawal slips.0 -

Yes they are "already activated", but you need your pin to use them, this then kills the old Abbey card.
I fail to understand the anti Santander theme here?
Someone has been very clever, not a muppet as suggested earlier in obtaining the op's details, if Satander didn't sort it and blamed the op, IF, he hadn't been loose with his security, I would be the 1st to be on their back, :beer:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
It all depends what the procedure is supposed to be at the counter for Santander. Assuming a replacement card has been intercepted and used at a branch.cyclonebri1 wrote: »Yes they are "already activated", but you need your pin to use them, this then kills the old Abbey card.

If the card is swiped or the chip in the card is read to obtain the account number it may not be accepted by the cashier because it has not been used for the first time and the fraud could be prevented by asking more questions.
If the account number is merely read off the front of the card then the fraud is made possible assuming that the DOB is known if asked for.0 -
Just to let you all know I checked my account this morning and £1180 was put back into my account yesterday. I am really pleased and what a relief it is.
I still am going to phone them after 9 to make sure my account is still blocked as someone out there still has access to my account over the counter.
I got to say well done to Satander for getting it back in my account after only 4 days after I reported it missing. I would of thought they might have phoned me yesterday to let me know that's what they were going to do. I am still moving to Lloyds as I don't think Santander have enough security measures at the counter to stop this happening again. If someone did just take my account number off the cheque I sent to Ealing Council then it is very easy for someone to do this again.0 -
hey that is great news, and good on santander for sorting it out within 4 days, i hope you get an explaination to how they took the money from your account.
and i hope you're very happy at lloyds tsb
She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL ! :mad:0 -

And a kick in the nuts for certain other posters,
Glad to hear all has ended well, well it hasn't actually, you really do need to find how your security has been breached, and pretty quickly,
;) :T I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

In order to draw out over £500 then the person doing so has to have transactional id ie the card linked to the account as well as driving licence, passport or debit/credit card from another bank. Santander do have strict criteria. This is not to mention that withdrawals over £500 need prior ordering and are at the whim of the SCM. Not to mention the signed withdrawal slip, note of id seen and control sheets filled in etc0
