I was originally thinking of buying the Sony, but was very impressed with the Samsung. Haven't so far been able to compare them at the same time.
Both have excellent reviews - so views on which one to go for please (or better alternatives)
My main priorities are 1) picture quality 2) reliability 3) value for money.
I am not into gaming, or bluray stuff, nor bothered terribly about sound quality (can rig it up to hifi if it troubles me).

I have the Sony and think it's superb! I use it for Sky HD and PS3 (inc blu-ray) as well as standard def TV. Picture quality great, sound quality great, very good and easy to use EPG and remote.
Martin (above) has the Samsung and seems pleased with his. I think this shows theres not much in it these days with TV's.
When I got my Sony I chose it out of brand loyalty as much as anything. I've always had Sony TV's and never had a problem! I looked at the Samsung's (amongst other brands) but personally found the sound output to be inferior to the Sonys. If you look at the two TV's the Sony has a sort of speaker bar along the bottom. The Samsung has more of a shaped edge. The sound quality, in my opinion suffered because of this.
I would say try them both out in a shop, do your price research on t'internet and go for the one which feels right for you!0 -
Sony will have 3 yrs warantee as standard. If that's important to you.
Some / lots of the cheap lcds and plasma are truly shocking, but as the poster above says, at this price point you're unlikely to find a massive difference.
FWIW I bought the 37" Sony discounted and am very happy.Hello.0 -

I too have the 37" and agree its a great set although be careful with the warrenty as according to the email I received from them below the 3yr offer has now finished on these models and according to their website is available on the 2010 models
Dear Mr ****
Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 27/03/2010 06.44 PM.
I am happy to read that you are now the new owner of a Sony KDL-37W5710 Television.
In regards to your e-mail, I can confirm that originally the 3 year warranty offer was running from April 2009 up until the end of December 2009. This offer has been extended however, and is now running up until the end of March 2010. Therefore I can confirm that your KDL-37W5710 is covered by the manufacturers warranty for the 3 year period.
To validate this warranty all you need to do is keep hold of the original receipt that you would have been given upon purchasing the product. This will act as your proof of purchase, so that should the television need servicing within the warranty period, then the service agent will be able to perform an in warranty repair.
I hope this information is of some assistance. Thank you for your enquiry.
Yours sincerely
