Virgin Text Message Scam

This morning I got a text message, with a link that was charged £1.
The sender is 84383. This is the text:
'Close this MSG and return to your browser to collect your product. Or click this link http://wap.virginmedia.com/r/?mx= (long serie of letters follows)(£1) Virgin Mobile'
I tried to phone VM straight away, no answer. I emailed them requesting a refund, and to let me know if it was a genuine VM text.
They responded with a standard template email, telling me what a shortcode is and to phone them to find out who sent it (to make sure they get the 10p they charge for calls to customer service...)
I phoned them tonight and they said they don't know anything about the text, it was sent by Infomedia, part of the Mobile Interactive Group, who don't work for VM.
Actually on Infomedia's website they state that they do work for them, and manage their web store!!!!! And also the two companies don't appear linked at all according to the website. Mystery...
I am now emailing Infomedia requesting an immediate refund, and if they don't threatening to make a complaint to PhonePayPlus, as well as taking them to court charging over £20ph for wasted time + phone calls etc!
(before people ask, I don't have children, the phone is always with me, and I was even home alone the last few days!).
I'm so pixxed off. Anyone else had the same experience? Did they manage to sort it out????

I've phoned them again (found number on 'say no to 0870' website which I can call for free), to request a bar on incoming premium rate texts.
I've been told by Virgin that I can't bar incoming texts, only outgoing ones.
Why would they make it easier for customers?0 -
You should be able to ban premium rate numbers/texts.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

Virgin only ban outgoing calls/texts, not incoming ones.... :mad:0 -
all Virgin Media's online games, ringtones etc are provided by Infomedia.
Give the tech team a call on 01373855620 - they deal with the infomedia stuff - they may be able to advise.0
