Hey Everyone,
Newbie here posting for the first time, had a wee search but couldnt find anything to help me here.
Have just been to b & q to return a roll of extra wallpaper with my receipt to be told that the new refund policy brought in at the beginning of Feb has a 45 day limit, so because i had purchased my wallpaper on the 29th of January i basically am stuck....no refund, no exchange & no credit note!!!
Tried explaining to the refunds desk that i was going into the store to buy some other items and wasnt too fussed about getting money back even tho i had my receipt but they stood firm and basically sent me packing with my wallpaper. Now if it was a cheap roll i wouldnt be so annoyed but it was a 12 quid roll.
Help!! surely the must be able to do something or am i being too soft here?

45 days seems fair to me , appreciate it was an expensive purchase , but you either bought the paper too soon, or you were very slow in trying to return.0

Keep it in case you need to replace some of it in the future,I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

LOL ..... so you over-order, and the supplier does not have to refund you for your mistake, but it does have an ex-gratia policy to take back unwanted items within a certain time limit, and you want to quible because you are outside that time limit?0

I bought quite a lot of floor tiles from B Q , thought it better to buy more rather than less in case we ran out when laying them, we laid them 3 month after purchase , when I took the one complete pack back they too told me that its now 45 days return.
But he said beings I wasnt asking for a refund because I needed something else from the store he gave me a credit note , he pointed out their new 45 day rule do apply to all items in store where refunds use to be 90 days.
I looked at the credit note when walking a round the store and that clearly states that it can only be valid for 1 yr,,,
I suppose with wallpaper they have to have a time limit as they change their styles often and they will be left with out of date items that nobody wants ...0 -
You made the purchase on the understanding that a refund would be available if required. Yes, you did.
The contract term is the one that applies at the time of the purchase. Thus, the 45 day limit does not apply to this purchase.

I'm not surprised they brought in the 45 day limit. My wife found several large, unopened tins of B&Q paint at the back of the shed. She'd bought them years before but, never-the-less, B&Q customer services refunded her the full current price of the paint.
She had no receipt and the design of the tins was ages old.
I was gobsmacked!0 -
Of course it would be different if goods were faulty or unfit for purpose or did not match their description - in which case you have statutory protection over-riding the store policy.
But in this case you just bought too much. I agree with the earlier post - hang on to it for patching in future. I have often been glad of such spare pieces.0 -
I all ways say I have lost the receipt and ask for a credit Note...It all ways works0

If something was purchased at the beginning of February (Before the policy changed) and the back of the receipt states a 90 day period would that be the contract entered into with B&Q?
A friend bought a full bathroom suite including tiles etc, in early February, cost was around £1500 in total. She had it delivered just a month ago as some items were order only.
She has now had it fitted and there are several boxes of expensive tiles left over. Can she go back to the store with the receipt and expect a refund?
Surely they can't change the terms of the contract after the item has been paid for can they?
Cheers, J0
