From BT FAQ.
"Can I keep my current phone number?
Yes, if you currently have your telephone services provided by another company, eg, a cable operator, then we should be able to transfer your number to your new BT account.
All you need to do is tell us:
What company you are using
Your existing account number
You won't be charged for this transfer. We'll liaise with your current cable provider to ensure that you do not have a break in service"0
