Sky Broadband Problems

Options
Hello

I would like some techie advice please for my sky broadband please.

I have the free broadband service with sky that you get if you take there telephone package.

The problem I have is that if you go into a different room from where the box is located then the signal is pretty much non exsistent. You can connect sometimes but if my dad is on his laptop as well then it doesnt work.

I was wondering if upgrading to the paid higher gb would help or is it some sort of booster I need.

I would appreciate any help as I am not very techie to be honest.

Many thanks

mrs t

First off make sure the router is not near a source of radio interference, such as a cordless phone base station. Other routers in neighbours properties.
Second log in to the router its probably

    http://192.168.0.1/start.htm

    Username : admin
    Password : sky

Then find the wireless settings and change the channel default is usually 6, to say 10.
Try a couple of changes to see if that improves the situation.

Upgrading to a faster service will make no difference.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Hiya

    Thanks for your reply.

The router is right next to a cordless phone. I will move that now. Do you think that would cause it to not work in the other room. It only doesnt work in the other rooms when there is more than 1 laptop and xbox running at the same time.

From the routers status page, Click on the SETUP link, near the top of the page. You can then alter the settings for your wireless connection how you wish, and then click on the APPLY link to save your changes - depending on the size of your monitor, you might need to scroll down the page a bit to find the APPLY link. Those changes will remain in the router, even if you switch it off, until you change them again, or reset the router to its factory settings.
