sorry i really am a novice with computers, there are 3 ATI programs in my 'add/remove prgrams' list: ATI software uninstall utility
    ATI control panel
    ATI Display driver

is it the last one that i must uninstall?
I am currently downloading the driver for Radeon 7000 series, as this is the graphics card i have, i just hope this is right

Uninstall the lot. They're all installed when you install the graphics card drivers.
Once uninstalled, reboot before installing the new drivers and reboot after installation as well (even if it doesn't suggest it)

    also, check out omega drivers

for game support, why not contact the publishers, tbh you'll get much more help than from a money saving forum. Probs like this are quite specialised and even ya average geek wont know the answer unless theyve played that game and reproduced the problem.

Post the question on their forum, email their support addy.

Newest drivers should help with compatability for keeping applications/games/devices happy.

You may also find drivers that suit your needs better, I use the XTreme-G drivers for my Nvidia 6600GT as it makes Battlefield 2 much faster in hectic-war blowing up situations :)

No, Nvidia drivers are for Nvidia cards, ATi drivers are for ATi cards.

These are the two main graphics card makers now.

Nvidia.com and ATi.com will give you the latest stock drivers (meaning official drivers that most people will have)

However, because some people are just not impressed enough with the drivers provided by Nvidia and ATi they modify the stock drivers to give you a 'tweaked' driver based upon the stocks.

    There are afew to name:-

    Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com)
    Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net)
    Z-Project Drivers (http://www.thezproject.org)
    XTreme-G Drivers (http://www.tweaksrus.com)
    DNA Drivers (http://www.dna-drivers.com)

    ATi (http://www.ati.com)
    Omega Drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net)
    DNA Drivers (http://www.dna-drivers.com)

I've got the Nvidia 6600GT which is a oldish card now and I play Battlefield 2, I find the stock Nvidia drivers are abit sluggish when in the middle of a big war. The Xtreme-G 84.56 drivers work best for my needs.

Certain things like graphics drivers are always best to keep updated even if you're not having any problems with games, there will frequently be optimisations and bug fixes with new drivers that are always worth having. When I bought DOOM3 it wouldn't even run at all until I updated my graphics card drivers (I normally just simply install over the old drivers) and then it worked fine.

I am using ATI mobility Radeon 7000 IGP, so i chose the same driver on the ATI website but when installing the second of the three downloads i encountered yet another problem! I do not seem to have a video driver in the laptop and therefore it could not finish the installation. AND the game still does not work.
Is the video drive a downloadable option? (if so where from?)

Also EA basically say that my laptop is not good enough to play the game! So they cannot help
