PC game trouble

I have recently bought 'Battle for Middle Earth II', it installed nice and quickly, and seems to tun fine.

BUT: when i try to begin a new game or go on a 'skirmish' it decides to crash and go back to desktop, showing an average 'serious error report' box.

saying that there has been an error with the 'game.dat' file.

Is there anyway that I can fix this problem or is the game just not suited for this computer? (or does the compuer hate me?)

please help as i do not know a lot about computers!!

... Googles Battle for Middle Earth game.dat error... most seem to suggest updating your graphics card drivers. Thread 100 of http://www.middleearthcenter.com/forums/archive/index.php/f-18.html (first result in Google search) also suggests it could be a problem with temporary files.

thank you for this find chippy but the post that you are refering to has never been replied to and has been there for a year and half so must also be to do with 'Battle for Middle Earth 1' not 2.
but thank you for doing the research

    Sorry, I meant post 134 - http://www.middleearthcenter.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-2545.html

All you had to do was search that long list of threads for 'game.dat' - and note there are 3 pages of them...

ok have gone through this forum, done what it has said but still no luck.
i thought id be adventurous and go straight for the campaign (like a fool) it let me watch all the intro videos and then just as game play was about to be handed over it decided to stop and go back to the well known, 'game.dat' file problem!!

Sounds like it should be decent enough to play it. The only thing I can offer is the bog standard update your graphics drivers (in case you haven't) and uninstall/reinstall the game. That tends to solve most of my pc game woes.

    Drivers are free :D

Select the correct version for your graphics and operating system.

Uninstall old drivers from add/remove progs. Install new ones!

If you haven't updated the drivers since you've had it this could well be the problem. Use T4i's link and fingers crossed.
