And change the oil regularly as its a chain drive not a belt. Thankfully no problems with any of it.

Yep, I had a TDCI mondeo there and never a lick of bother either. Whatever car you get, theres a slice of luck needed.

ahillsy, that's exactly the kind of information that wasn't made available to me when I bought the car in 2006..

The manual for our 2006 Vauxhall Astra provides this information.

Bit late by then though. It needs to be in the sales literature.

Agree that there needs to be more up-front information about this, although I think it's a bit complicated to explain in marketing material, especially if you're selling diesel-engined city cars like a Panda.

, and because it would use less of the planet's resources.

Why ,Why do people think Diesels are better for the environment just because they have a lower CO2 emmision than a petrol. It is still a fact that the UK dairy herd contributes more to the greenhouse effect than all the cars in the country!!

Diesels engines may have lower co2 figures but usually kick out much higher levels of the heavier than air NOX and PM gases than petrol, which are proven to cause Asthma and cancers, they also stay around rather than floating up into the ozone layer like co2.

Just another excuse from the government to tax the poor motorist grrr!!!!:mad::mad:

They only make it smell so you get a warning when you're filling your petrol car up with it, :o:o

Don't wear it as an after shave, then. :)

I fill up every two weeks or so, and haven't noticed any smells on my COLT 1.5 D-ID. I do shake the nozzle to avoid getting any drips: years of practice :D . Maybe that's why ladies complain about fuel smells: they don't know you have to shake it. :rotfl:

A good thrash down one junction on the motorway in 4th gear should clear the soot out.

Is that the old Italian service technique?

Car brought in by old dear running badly.
Mechanic jumps in and drives it like he stole for an hour = problem fixed.

Maybe I was unlucky, I could never get in to the car without being greeted by the vile smell of diesel.

...and yes, I did shake it before putting it away.;)
