Okay,so I'm filthy rich but since when did that preclude anyone from looking for a bargain. It's how I earned so much money in the first place.
I just find it peculiar that anyone should think jetting off to the Far East and picking up a cheap suit is in any way thriftier than spending the airfare and hotel money on a decent British suit in the first place.
Come to think of it - isn't it surprising that anyone who can afford a holiday in the far East needs to use a moneysaving website ?

If you want to pay £50 for a suit that is entirely your right.
But you might as well walk around with a large sign saying " I know I look cheap and nasty in this suit but I'm hoping that there's some idiot out there who really thinks it was made by a good English tailor and by the way please ignore those sparks of static electricity flying off me "
C'mon people - if you buy a 50 quid suit it's gonna look like a 50 quid suit - you ain't fooling anyone.
It's the sartorial equivalent of a combover.

er no, what planet are you on....its a simple case of supply (and costs inc labour) and demand.....£50 is alot of money in Thailand...labour costs are much much lower than the uk. may be the £600 suit in the uk is better quality but i doubt.....i used a tailor recommended by BA and they imported their materials from the UK!!!!

eh...the far east isnt expensive......you can get a flight and five star accomodation for the price of a holiday in some 2-3 star (yeh right, not!!) fleapit in the med....just book the hotel direct rather than pay double the cost so some muppet can meet you at the airport (1 hour late!!) and line the pockets of the travel agent

You are,of course, entitled to buy your clothing wherever you choose - and by the sound of your increasingly hysterical tone of voice you obviously feel quite defensive about it.
My point is this - if everyone were to buy their clothing, their cars, their food, their furniture etc etc from the Far East then pretty soon Britain will have no manufacturing industry or craftsmen to speak of.
I personally prefer to spend my money Backing Britain - unfashionable,I know, but each is entitled to their own.
British tailoring is the very best in the world -and considering the expertise and skill that goes into the making of a fine Savile Row suite excellent value-for-money.
However,Donnie,if you ever find yourself standing in a dole queue because your job has been out-sourced to a Far Eastern country where wages and conditions are below what you would consider to be the basic minimum you'll look the bees knees in your cheap Chinese suit .

    Dear nobjocki

Basic minimum? What would that be then? A person in Thailand earning £5 an hour would be doing quite nicely thank you.`

Maybe you haven't noticed, but we are already buying our cars, clothing, food and furniture from abroad.
If we were dependent on British manufacturing and craftsmanship, we wouldn't be able to afford any clothes, food, furniture or cars.
Not only does our economy need immigration for the cheaper labour force, but the outsourcing too.

Luckily, I was able to get away from the rat race and I don't need to work.
Thus, I don't need to impress anyone by wearing an expensive looking suit.

I'm quite happy to spend my money on seeing the world rather than looking like a 'stuffed shirt'.

You are no more wealthy than intelligent.

I'm heading to Malaysia for a few weeks in September, and was hoping that I would be able to pick up a couple of tailored suits whilst I was out there.

A few years ago, I did them same in Thailand, and although the suits were not top notch quality, the fact that they were a perfect fit more than made up for it, and at less than £50 each I have been really chuffed. Unfortunately, I've put a few pounds on since then, and now need to 'upgrade'.

Is Malaysia similar to Thailand in this respect, or are prices/quality completely different?

    Thanks

depends on which parts of malaysia you are going, if you are in penang than i would avoid the small shops near Batu Feringgi ( near all the big hotels), if you have no choice go towards George town and either look for a sort of 1960's type shop --usually indian smart looking or go for trendy shops in a modern shopping complex. Both will do what you want. you might paid slightly more from £60-£70 but any type of material they could do.

avoid langkawi unless you are doing it in the hotel tailors. if in kuala lumpur or any city try big shops in shopping complex or one recommended by hotel manager not their bell boys.

email me if you need more info.

    Hi Donnie:

I see looking at a reply to one of your other posts that you have some " previous " when it comes to rudeness.

Perhaps it's something you learned on all those trips " alone " to Thailand and Amsterdam which you eulogise about in your other posts.

When it comes to 'rudeness', we only have to look at your stupid username.

Thank you for highlighting that post, but of course you know the person in that post apologised to me for that post.

He had asked to me to send him a PM message about a cheap flight to Tokyo.
I found him a direct flight £200 cheaper than he could find, but there was only one seat.
So when I had received no reply or acknowledgement from him, I asked, "I wonder what happened to him".

That was the sentence he misconstrued as semi-abusive.

If you read further, you would have noted his apology.

But, of course, that would have spoilt your story.

Once again, you're just making yourself look a idiot.

Yes, I can afford to spend the winter in SE Asia, splitting my time beween Koh Chang and Koh Samui in Thailand, Hong Kong(for renewing my wardrobe), Malaysia and Singapore.
It's great being able to miss the cold dark nights in Europe.
I met my German girlfriend in Thailand and we meet regularly in Amsterdam.
I rent a house there for that purpose.

Unlike yourself, I don't feel the need to fabricate stories.

    Look at the nonsense you write;

Errrr cos if you goto SE Asia you get a holiday and suit? If you goto Saville Row you get a suit and nothing else. Isn't that the most obvious thing in the world?

As for weddings dresses, I'd forgotten that. My wife got hers made in KL for £125 IIRC. And it looked FANTASTIC.
