I have been in a similar situation - though the debt wasnt mine - I was advised by CAB to send a letter detailing dates etc to prove there was no outstanding debt on me, and then state that if they contacted me again outside of any specific legislation that allowed them to do so i would consider their actions Harassment.

There is a specific harassment law but you can rarely enforce it unless you state that you consider their behaviour to be so.

once you have done this if they call, visit or contact you without proper legal paperwork - you can sue.

Obviously we never took it this far (luckily didnt have to) but the harassment claim made them back off completely.

Some of this may not be factually correct - but the advise worked for us.

I cant believe that they would send somebody round to your house for £15.

Its probably just a scare tactic.

I had a similar situation with transax. I bounced a cheque on someone and immediately sent another. This was cashed but in the meantime payment was sent to them by transax who came after me for it along with a "fee". I was !!!!!!ed if I was going to pay twice for the same thing!

    Indeed!

Well I spoke to a very helpful young man at Consumer Direct today, and have now sent off a recorded delivery letter to Britannia, so will now wait to hear back from them.
