I don't think you should get him a gift at this stage.

I think you're original suggestion of the day out and meal is more than sufficient.

And ask yourself this: If he was not satisfied with the above, when you've been together for such a short time, do you really want to be with him anyway?

I don't know any guys who wouldn't be grateful for a day out with a meal in this situation. But I know plenty that would freak out at getting a gift so early on, particularly something like aftershave, in addition to the day out and meal. They tend to see it as 'Wow, she spent quite a lot on me and we've only been dating for xx amount of time. She must think we're pretty serious already! Eek!'.

  • I agree, think the day out and meal is a lovely 'present' but I would give him a personal card from you as well as signing the card at work.

Can you think of anything which you've talked about with him which could help to inspire a small gift? Maybe if you've ever said to him that he'd love xyz author, you could get him something by that author? Or something he's mentioned? That way you can give him something wrapped up which won't be expensive, but it will be thoughtful and show that you're appreciating the time you're spending together :)

When me and an ex who worked together started going out it was my birthday about 5weeks after we started dating - for my birthday he got us tickets to see a stage show in Liverpool with dinner - put the tickets in my card. I thought that was more than enough,
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together

Shave everything and deliver the perfect blow job in just your knickers. No question (and I'm a girl).

:rotfl:Ahhhh you lot have made me chuckle with this thread!

I saw him last night, he took me out for dinner which was very nice and he only just left a few hrs ago - i am aware it's no longer thurs night! :o

I did mention his b'day and going out for the day, which he seemed keen on and is going to have a think about where he'd like to go :)

I think after all your suggestions i'm going to get him a card, probably a jokey one and also something small that relates to what we've spoken about.

As we're both teachers, i know he's got alot of marking to do and i've seen a MASSIVE biro in Hawkin's Bazaar that should be a good laugh!

Also, at the weekend a few of us are going up town for his bday and his parents are coming for a few drinks, which i'm a little nervous about, if it's not one thing it's another! haha

Sounds as if it's all going very well! :T

I had only been going out with OH for a couple of weeks and it was my birthday. He gave me a card and a little box - and honestly, my heart sank. A ring already??!

It was a lovely little key ring. Perfect gift - probably less than a tenner but I was dead chuffed. (he does tell me I looked horrified when he brought the box out!)

Giant pen sounds just the job - apt! Good luck with the parents....
