Nice to see consumers starting to spend again.
Over 3 times better growth than forecast.
M&S sales recovery very fragile, could be totally derailed by that 1% increase in NI as they have to lay off huge numbers of staff 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Loving the love-in between Hamish and Grahammade me lol.
OK ancecdotal...consumers are deff on a consuming fest again.
The big floor I trade on was 25% up last week (on last year but, OK easter does affect figs, but not 25%) and other floors up 10-15% every week at the mo.
This is in an especially ''useless, pointless, needless'' sector (in Tin Foil Hat Terms0, so it may be a sign of 'good' news or signal a move away, for some of our population, from just essential spend to an increase in 'pointless, profligate, trivial ' spend?0 -

Watch out for more 'self serve' checkouts.
The whole Employers NI thing really winds me up TBH. Staff look at pay and take home but don't see that the employer has to add on a bit to give the Govt. just for employing them. Bluddy winds me up.
Do I sound like Mrs T?
Doh.....increase the costs of employing someone, chuck in some really dodgy rules that could end up at an expensive tribunal and what do you get? Small employers like me, working out ways to get the job done without employing directly. I have never, ever treated an employee of mine is a bad way or 'done them over' but one law affects all.0 -

Interesting to compare this to the comments from some guy in the petrol industry on the news yesterday, reporting that forecourts are seeing reductions in incomes owing to people being a lot more careful about food expenditure. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

which board encompasses cooking? Old style? I wish we had an actual MSE cooking board. That would be useful.0 -

Interesting point from 'Dragon' James Caan on Newsnight, most of the 'captains of industry' that have come forward to support Georgie are in retail, most people in retail are paid less than 20k so most of their payroll is unaffected by the proposed NI increase.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is.
