  • Mother is damned clever. The money has been put through daughter's account, and mother has hold of the money. It is going to be hard to prove that the loan was not taken out by daughter...

    Yes. Very calculating and manipulative.

Hopefully if the police get involved they will be able to get phone records/recordings and prove the truth. Their voices sound nothing alike.

OK, I have thought about what to do.

Stumblingtrout: Pay off the payday loan if you can afford to and ask mother for the money.

Then go to CIFAS http://www.cifas.org.uk and file a protective registration covering girlfriend. Do not tell mother in law, ever. Let her repeat the scam. She will! And when she gets caught, you won't have shopped her. If ever she asks about the CIFAS registration, you can honestly say it was an idea off the internet to prevent identity fraud.

point to note the payday loan company will normally debit the amount due (loan plus interest) from the account the money was paid into come next payday.

Those searches look like full searches. Usually takes a little time for a full credit account to show on credit report.

  • Thanks.

Looks like I will be putting a phone call in to expressfin tomorrow to see whether the loan is or is not in GF's name.

Will also be phoning Experian tomorrow about it aswell, as I think they can do some investigation?

CIFAS looks a good idea - I'll get the GF registered with that.

Interesting what Lilacpixie says on both points. Money can't be debited from GF's account in a months time - she doesn't have the funds so that could be interesting, and also about the time for an account to show on a report. How long are we talking?

    Thanks again

I would seriously think about getting GF to open a new bank account, and move all DD and standing orders over to it, except the payday loans one. You are going to have to find some funds one way or another to repay this, unless you go to the police, and the interest will stack up if you do not repay it on time.

Talk about the wicked mother, but this is taking the pi*s. I cannot believe she would stoop so low, shop her to the police, not easy, but if your GF cannot repay this loan, then what choice do you have?
  • Phone call to Express Finance confirmed worst nightmare - loan is in GF's name.

Forwarded on to their fraud department and will be chasing them up just after 12 when the fraud liaison woman is back out of a meeting.

Mother sent GF a text saying:

"Have spoken to loan co your details have been linked accidentally to my request for money as I asked for it to be paid to you. They ran my details through a number of companies to get me best deal as brokers not actual lenders the searches against you will be removed will take up to 2 weeks from requesting..."

Anyone think there could be any truth in that?

The problem is that she is very convincing - and you really do have to call her bluff to prove her wrong. But she will NEVER admit it.

I would seriously doubt it...with the mother's history, the loan being in your GF's name and the mother not having a job it all appears to add up to the loan having been taken out fraudulently. I feel very sorry for your GF to have a mother that is prepared to steal from and lie to her...not nice....hope you can get it sorted.

Yeah. I know. This is ridiculous.

The issue is she can't get a new bank account as her current one is a student account with a £2750 overdraft interest free. Which is near as damn it maxed out.
