The site we can use is http://www.wheelies.co.uk

This is what "my wife" was going to get on her cycle to work scheme until HMRC requested more info on why a woman wanted a massive man's off road bike to cycle to work.

    Shame, awesome bike.
  • Comes as not being able to buy on cycle to work scheme as specialized bike! Thanks anyway Kurtis. Will they check if your not going to cycle to work? as the scheme suggests you need to use it at least 50% of your week

Why won't they allow you to buy a Specialized?

    I like this one:

No they will not check, you need to work out the ratio of use off-on road, mine was going to be probably 25% road 75% trail.
  • I guess it will be mostly road, im guessing 75% road and 25% other. Does anyone have any ideas of a good bike within this range?

Are you male or female ? What is the value of the voucher you are to apply for ? How far is your commute ? The 25% other, will that be mud/rocks/green lanes or hard packed/tarmac cycle routes ? Will you ride during the day or at night, all year round or just summer ? Will you have hills ?

I commute round the clock, often in 7 day stretches, year round both on and off road and much to my wifes dismay have a garage filled with many bikes.

I am happy to help a potential new cyclist, just give us a little more information.

I have a Sirrus Sport - http://www.wheelies.co.uk/p27701/Specialized-Sirrus-Sport-2010.aspx, although mine is a few years old now. Its a cracking bike for commutes but I do like these new Crosstrail models.

I am male, the max cost of bike is up to 1100. The commute is 10 mile. And other 25% will oprob be hard packed not mountainy. Probably during the day and probably all year round.
    I hope you can help
  • I'd try and buy from a shop rather than a website. At least you know it'll have been competently screwed together.
