Is this the most rude and offensive Tesco delivery guy EVER?

Just had an awful experience with a Tesco's delivery driver. He didn't ring the intercom, as the others do, he called my boyfriend's mobile and said he was at the end of the street. We took that to mean 'so come down and open the door' (we live in an apartment block).

But no, he was literally at the end of the street about 3 mins down the road. He said he couldn't drive up to the apartment block as there were 2 bollards stopping him, and why don't we have 24 hour security like 'the good apartments up the road?' - we pointed out we do have 24 hour security and he was in fact parked right next to it, and in any case the bollards aren't locked and can be dropped by anyone.

In any case the very least we expected was a trolley, or for him to help us back to the front door. In the past the couriers have put the boxes on a trolley, wheeled them to the lobby, put them in the lift and brought them to our apartment - in the kitchen, even!

This guy refused to give us a trolley or help us. He didn't even leave the boxes on the pavement he left them right in the middle of the road. I struggled to pick one up and my boyfriend picked up 2, we obviously couldnt manage the last one, rather than help the courier picked it up and tried to put it on top of the box i was carrying and said 'are you feeling strong love?' in a patronising voice. I don't know ANY women my age and frame who can carry 8 bottles of lemonade and a box full of tins.

He also said 'you should get 24 hour security like the nice apartments up the road where all the rich Jews live' - HELLO, was there ANY need for that comment?!

Called Tesco in disgust to complain and waiting for a manager to call me back tomorrow. Depending on the outcome, and regardless of the cost, we are considering changing to Sainsbury's.

No wonder you were upset thats outrageous treatment - poor u.

I remember once - not as bad as yours but my OH and I bought a bed really expensive and the company would not deliver we had to pick it up - fair enough we thought but they made us carry it from the back of the store to the front and out to the van we hired. Store didnt last long I wonder why.

Anyway I cannot wait to find out what Tesco's said although in my opinion Tescos service used to be the best and now its really gone down hill.

We don't generally bother as it's easier for the delivery guy to pop 4 boxes on a trolley and bring them up. We pointed this out to him as he was bleating on about us not having security when we do, we even pointed at the office, but he was too busy on his soapbox. When he got in the van I thought he'd gone to get some paperwork but he just drove off leaving us struggling!

And yes, Tesco's service has dropped considerably. The woman taking my complaint apologised to me in a very 'i dont care' voice and said 'a manager will probably call you back some time tomorrow'. Vague!

First and last time I used Tesco delivery service they just didn't come, I called the store to ask why they said the driver had called in sick. I asked why they hadn't let me know they said I dunno! They wanted me to wait in all the next day as the slots were full but they would fit it in somehow, I told them to cancel. They took the money from my credit card anyway and it was a big shop ( over £100) when I called they were spectacularly unhelpful and I had to call the overall CS at HQ to get it sorted. They managed to deliver a £20 voucher and decent bottle of wine along with the refund paperwork.

  • I hope you get a grovelling apology and some goft vouchers or something, KittyKate - and that the delivery guy gets educated a bit about customer service. In the first place, the entire point of ordering home delivery is to avoid having to carry stuff home, and if you were going to attempt to carry heavy shopping home from a shop, you wouldn't dream of putting in boxes, would you? It's bad enough that they have failed to provide the service you required, but the attitude you had to put up with was a disgrace.

I got no gift vouchers from Tesco when I cancelled due to non delivery and then another mix up so therefore I cancelled and they took the money out of my account then too. I was under the impression = point of sale is delivery signature - this is not the case at all - tesco needs a good kick up the *ss.

By the way we have a real old grumpy senior citizen who works as a driver - he really slates the company and I would have thought he would not as its his job!!!
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

Presumably you have to sign for the delivery? If so..."Thanks very much, I'll sign for the delivery when you've delivered it."
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I always thought they there had to deliver 'to your door' which is what they're supposed to do. I've had lots of problems - we are up two flights of stairs (I state this clearly in the delivery info) yet I have had guys say "well if anything gets stolen from downstairs that's your responsbility" and "can you bring it upstairs"......NO NO NO! That's why I'm paying you to do it!

I only use Tesco delivery if I'm really desperate now, they don't seem to care about customer service at all, just keep plugging the holes with vouchers and hollow apologies - which they can afford to do if their profits are up!
