I applied for this online Dec 5 - week later received a form for more details and returned it pronto. (Using wise advice from Martin to go for BT post Xmas). 1 week later got credit agreement to sign and my payslip and utility bill. Did that & posted pronto. Dec 28 got letter saying apps in progress and phone a number which was an 0870 number!! Eventually I spoke to lady who said gold card was approved and in post within 5-7 days. However since then nothing. I have spent hours on phone (0870) on hold. Wised up by Martin so freephoned them (got thro fast!) and was told I would have a formal complaint logged and be phoned back. - Nothing happened -waited 10 more days phoned Tuesday and let rip and cancelled apps. Got my payslip and utility bill by return of post!! No message nothing. Is it me?
My worry is did I get approved for a card and is it on my credit record?
confused newbie who needs help

HSBC are legendarily slow. Up to 2 months to actually get the card isn't unusual. They're just taken 3 weeks to send me mine.
Yes you have been credit searched and if you re-apply you will be credit searched again, I am afraid.
Go for an MBNA or Egg instead, they will probably give you a better limit anyway.0 -
Hmmm. I've been waiting nearly 3 months. It's now a month since visiting the branch with payslips etc. Since then - diddly squat!westernpromise wrote:HSBC are legendarily slow. Thanks for that advice but I wish they hadn't actually told me it was coming in 5-7 days on 28 Dec! I thought it was lost in the post. Worse still when I talked to someone in January there seemed to be no record of my application. What are they doing with them I wonder? No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Quelle surprise!! Saturday a Gold Card arrived for me. I phoned (and got through) to check it was valid as it was sent the day I cancelled it. It was as valid and I was offered an immediate 0% BT 0% purchases for 9 months + the BT dept phone number if I wanted to do another BT within the next month! I am speechless! Thanks for phone number. Called up but was advised to go into the branch. Went in signed on the dotted line. Now await card in 7-10 days. Lousy limit though £2000. Mustn't look a gift horse in the mouth...0

Very disappointed with HSBC. Still not got my card having applied early Nov. I wanted the card for christmas & sale shopping. Its been a complete waste of my time.
Sent them an email the other day politely telling them to shove their card.
Is there anywhere on this site to grade credit cards. I want to give HSBC a very low rating, like I say its not worth anyones time.0 -
What do you know. Got home from work last night and my card was waiting for me.
Will be stoozing in a HSBC branch this lunchtime. Crap limit though.
My suggestion is go into a branch with your details and let them handle it via their computer, with a customer service advisor.
I think Martin needs to advise people to apply online (print your details off before submiting application and print acknowledgement email. Wait 10 days for a response by mail then take your details into a HSBE branch and carry on from there if no mail arrives.0
