Default given by Scottish Power when we weren't their customers.
Options
At some point when we lived in Norwich, Scottish Power came to the door and offered us a good deal. British Gas decided that because we were paying the year off by direct debit that they would refuse to let us move contracts. Nothing more was thought about it. We merrily signed our lease in Wales on the 5th of december 2008 and moved out around the 10/11th of december.
Two plus years have passed and we went to see our friendly mortgage adviser to check if we could get a mortgage on a fourty grand dump nearby. No we can't because last week someone put a default on hubbys credit for the princely sum of £128.
You guessed it, Scottish Power!
They started us a contract on the 22nd of december 2008, over a week after we'd moved out.
We've contacted Scottish Power who say that they just made an account and it's all normal and allowed, and that they can't deal with it because it's all with a debt company.
Called the debt company who say they didn't put a default and were passed the debt a few months ago and that we need to dispute this with Scottish Power.
Frustrated and very angry right now to say the least.
We've now managed to speak to a customer services manager who honestly doesn't care, tells us that they are allowed to reattempt a contract anyway and that we're liable despite having a lease elsewhere and the property being vacant. She's gone off to ring the landlord of the property before she'll speak to us further.

Hi Mercion - From your post it seems that you attempted to Switch from BG to Scot. Power in response to a Doorstep canvasser. Sorry, but this is never a wise move.
You must deal with this in writing because as you have already found out, the staff on telephone Customer Service Desks are less than helpfulin a Debt situation, as by their training when they see the debt on screen, thier action is is limited to " Give us the money".
You have been fed some absolute cr*p over the phone -. "Can't deal with it 'cos it's with the debt company". "You are still liable despite moving elsewhere" are all total red herrings.
What counts is that BG refused to allow the Switch because of debt you had with them at the time, and on that basis SP had no right to take over the account or send you bills.
Write heading the letter Complaint setting out the detail as in your post, also make a claim for any financial loss you suffered because thier mark on your credit score caused a mortgage application to fail
Good Luck0 -
Many thanks for your response. We managed to escalate to the customer services director who after being sent a copy of our lease has rung us today and told us he is now in the process of talking to the department who deal with defaults to have it removed as he agrees it was unreasonable.0

Hi Mercion
Sorry to hear about the poor service you received from our Customer Service team. The first thing that we should do in this situation is check whether we have a valid application from you requesting the supply be transferred to ScottishPower. The transafer process itself will take between 4 and 6 weeks to complete. You would be notified by letter of any objection made by BG and if we were going to make another attempt to transfer the supply.
If you have escalated the matter to level 3 of our internal complaints procedure then we will investigate the account for you and confirm the outcome.
Kind Regards

Thanks for the response, after some arguing and showing that we had a lease in a different country SP admitted an error and have removed the default and the debt.0
