Can't cancel sky tv and keep phone and web

Options
I have just bought a free-sat hd box so that I don't have to pay sky's exorbitant fees of £58 per month.

I phoned up yesterday to cancel the TV service but keep the phone line and broadband service and was told that I can't do this.

I have to have the minimum TV package to continue using the phone and broadband.

This is scandalous especially as the phone and broadband do not even come through the satellite or sky box.

They just kept saying that phone and broadband is not a stand-alone service.

So until I get a new phone and broadband supplier I will have to pay £18 per month for the sky box that is sat in the corner unplugged.

Sadly, that is how Sky works, they like stitching people in to their service.

Just get rid of their phone and broadband if you are unhappy.

It was in their T&C's when you signed up.

I am trawling the web now for the best deals for phone and broadband and will get rid of sky asap.

You're right, a stitch up

    Cheers

I dont see how this is a stich up !

They sell the broadband etc at a discount as part of their tv services, it seems quite clear to me

They may stitch you in but it is not a stitch up, Sky broadband and phone service is dependent on you having a Sky TV package, if you cancel that then you lose the other services, as already stated read the T & C.

You do realise that you can get all the free to air channels on your existing Sky box?
Are a couple of HD channels worth the expense of a freesat box?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

It is not a stitch up by any means. Sky subsidise broadband and telephone line charges because you have the total package. If you remove the most expensive part, you lose all your other discounts and special deals. Type your postcode or telephone number into www.samknows.com and check which LLU providers are in your area. If you are on O2 for your mobile it might be worth looking into their LLU package. If not then maybe try BE for broadband.

According to other threads on here, Sky are now offering phone and broadband without the TV sub requirement.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Interesting, maybe no one told their reps.:D

If you go into the Sky website it says Sky Talk Line Rental is only available to SKY TV customers and for broadband it says you must be an active Sky TV subscriber at all times during this contract, or am I missing something?

There was a post on here earlier saying it had only been introduced 4 days ago? Unfortunately I can't locate it now.

When I phoned them 3 days ago the agent said they would be offering phone and broadband without tv sub but she did not know when.
It's a shame because I have never had any problems with the phone and broadband but I don't want to pay tv subs anymore.
I would be willing to pay more for the phone and broadband if it was not being subsidized by tv.
