Up until yesterday, I could search in Google, press search or enter and would get the new page in a new tab, but now when I click search or enter the page opens in the same window, how can I get the search back so that it opens in a new tab? (If I use Yahoo search it opens in a new tab, but I prefer Google).

I have the Google options re add-ons set to "for tabs and new windows;- Enter, to open in new tab"

Also a similar thing re Outlook Express, when I clicked on a link it opened a new page, but now it opens up in the existing window that I have open, how do I get these two back to opening up in new tabs/windows?

Thanks

Sorted the first one, just need to sort the e-mail links.

My browser is Firefox, as per my edit in my OP, I have sorted the first one, I did not have the Google toolbar and could not install it, however that is now installed and working as I want.

As per my OP, re e-mail links; - " re Outlook Express, when I clicked on a link it opened a new page, but now it opens up in the existing window that I have open, how do I get[STRIKE] these two[/STRIKE] this back to opening up in new tabs/windows?"

Change the default programming so that links open on Firefox (Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Set Program Access and Defaults)

As I will have set different from default, (don't know what !), I assume this will alter all of my resets? if so is there not a way I can just revert(?) to how it was re the e-mail links?

    I might not have explained?

They do open in firefox, but as a tab in the open window, previously they opened in a new (FF), window and not as an extra tab in the open window.

I dont use OE any more but that way shoud enable you to default what browser to use on all links. Alternatively, the options within OE should enable you to read links externally too.

    This may help: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69758-default-programs.html?ltr=D

I actually think it is the latest FF update, (version 3.6.3), it does some things differently, i.e. when clicking the centre wheel on the mouse it used to open a new tab at the end of open tabs, it now opens the new tab at the side of the open tab wherever that happens to be.

If you want to turn back the clock on Firefox's new-tab behaviour.

    1. In the Firefox address bar, type about: config, then press Enter.

    2. Click the I'll be careful, I promise! button. (Feel free to clear the checkbox so you don't see that warning again.)

    3. In the Filter field, type browser.tabs.insert. You should see the preference name browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent appear.

    4. Right-click that entry and then click Toggle. That'll change the Value setting to false.

That's all there is to it! You don't even have to close that tab or restart Firefox. If you want to go back to the new way of opening new tabs, just repeat the steps and toggle the value back to true.

    Simples!
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

Done exactly as you explained, twice, it makes no difference, from a link in an e-mail it still opens in a new tab at the end of the open window.

Looks like I will just have to live with it.
