Donnie, does this apply to the States as it usually costs us a fortune when we holiday there, plus hotels can charge what they like for internet access.
If so could you give me an idiots guide please of how to do this, many thanks.
As aforementioned by Kyresa...
In addition, once unlocked, you will need to pick up a suitable PrePaid SIM when you arrive.
Check AT&T coverage before you go.0 -

Thanks Donnie, :T hope you don't mind but I'll link my daft questions and this thread onto the Las Vegas thread as we've been looking for a cheaper way to do mobile internet. Very much appreciated.
Thanks also to OP and sorry for hijacking your thread. :cool:DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Re unlocking a dongle and using it in the US.
I tried to unlock my 3 dongle using the instructions. I downloaded File Helper to open the rar file and was asked to enter my email address to get the access code, but despite trying 3 different email addresses, the email with the code never arrived so I drew a blank.
I tried a local shop, but they said they could unlock the ZTE 626, but not the ZTE 627.
How easy is it to get a SIM suitable for using mobile broadband in the US? I called a few places in Vegas and every one said they didn't supply SIM only.
Is it a normal SIM for mobile calls I would need? If so, aren't they expensive to use for data rather than calls?
** Edit - just looking at the link to AT&T and see the rates they have there.0 -
Just checked the AT&T site and even if I did get a SIM card and an unlocked dongle, the data is $19.99 for 100MB. I think I will still be cheaper with the Virgin Broadband2Go at $40 for 1GB as I reckon I will need up to 500MB over the 2 weeks.0

File Helper?? You need to install WinRAR or 7-ZIP to open/extract .rar files. Free of charge to use, no stupid access codes.0 -

That's not quite all, you would still need to buy a special dongle, capable of "EVDO Rev A" for US$99 as well as US$40 for the 1GB of access.
You may have missed this on the AT&T website:
DataConnect Month Pass - 500MB $50.00
This $50 rate plan allows for data usage only on the AT&T network for 30 days or 500MBs maximum usage whichever comes first.
AT&T service should work with the ZTE MF626....though seems like quite a palaver.0 -
T-Mobile have pay as you go mobile broadband sticks with 50% off in April on their website - £8.99 with a £10 topup. Comes with 30 days free too with sticks available in black or pink.
Brilliant deal, thanks!
Just ordered the £8-99 stick plus £10-00 top-up, through Quidco (£10-00 cashback).
So basically I've got the £10-00 top-up for free plus they give you 30 days free internet access when you start using it, worth another £15-00!!
Hopefully it arrives in time for my coach trip up to Leeds (£2 each way on National Express - sale still on!) at the end of the month.

Yes I had noticed that then managed to forget about it by the time I posted. (Where's the embarrassed smilie? )
A friend has got me the Virgin dongle as it seemed like the best method of getting online in the US at the time, but this looks comparable or a bit cheaper in the short term.
I also have a Vodafone K3565 dongle. How easy would that be to unlock?0 -

Which one?
K3565-Z or K3565-H ?
Try here for the second.0
