Totally agree on the need to use a better modem/router, but to be fair to TalkTalk, they're installation does give an option to use your own modem during the setup - more than most other ISPs & it also checks you have security/AV etc. before installation proceeds - needless to say, you're offered their own package which is, I believe, charged monthly - no idea who the provider is though. As far as migrating from AOL, it's more often than not become standard practice to have to restore a PC before any other ISP can be loaded because AOL screws up so much of the system.0

Am thinking about converting from dial-up to TalkTalk broadband with 'phone. Have saved a lot of money on calls to mobiles and abroad by using 0844 access numbers as found on MSE callchecker. Has anyone tried to use these on TalkTalk and are they charged in the same way?0

I have the line rental and phone package from TT at the moment (not broadband yet) and use the 0844 numbers. Have compared cost with people who use different suppliers and cost is the same. As far as I understand, this may change when they unbundle your local exchange. Read something about it in their T&Cs on their website recently.0 -

At the present time they charge the same as BT do to call 0844 access numbers. They are dearer then BT to call 0845 at peak rate.0
