ok, earlier i did a full scan with kaspersky 2010. in the results i got the following which are located within the objects scan section.
Detected: HiddenObject.Multi.Generic C:\Documents and Settings\mark\AppData\Local\Temp\~DF8F3E.tmp Logged
the next line is the same except it starts with Untreated instead of detected and ends with skipped by user instead of logged.

there are 3 more that are the same in everyway except for the 6 figure combination of numbers and letters towards the end. the second one has DF904C. the third has DFABCD and the fourth has DFAD46.

when i click to open file location they say the folder is called Low and they were created 25/9/07, modified today. new numbers ending with.tmp keep appearing and disappearing within the opened folder.

i have just found something else. in the my protection section it has nothing under result, absent under application and under object it says >>>To delete the file C:\Windows\system32\wbem\Logs\tmp1.log reboot is required.

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/2894/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

    thanks.
i will do these. something to note about power producer is i uninstalled the program ages ago but it remains listed within the list of programs. when i click to uninstall again i get a message saying something like installation stopped. this software is intended for windows 2000 or above only. it is something that came out before vista so i guess there is a compatibility issue. however except for within the program list it does not exist anywhere else on the pc. as far as launcher goes i am sure it was suggested by someone that i remove it ages ago but i discovered that it came with the pc and i concluded it couldnt be harmful coz they wouldnt deliberately install something bad onto a new pc.
i have to go out for an hour so i will work on this when i get back.

ps power producer was software that came with a jvc camcorder i bought 5 years ago.
