can any one tell me why every time I switch on my old computer I have to update all the time & date details etc.? Have tried changing the battery.
I don't get this thread -the OP's very first post says 'have tried changing the battery'. Presumably it was unsuccessful?
So why does the OP then say 'what battery? No free lunch, and no free laptop

This is almost certainly a CMOS battery problem. Are you sure the one you put in was a good one??
The only other thing I can think of is that your PC is set to some weird miles away time zone and updates the time automatically via interwibble when you switch on.
What happens if you go into BIOS when you switch on, is it all back to square one??0 -
