I hated driving in Tenerife and would never do it again. We booked a car for three days and they were the longest of my life! Never again.
Mount Teide is lovely, air is thin at the top. If you are driving I recommend you get there early before all the coach parties tun up.
Pointing out the obvious steer clear of the those selling stuff restaurant to reataurant, and the find the ball under the cup scam.
It's a lovely place, AVOID Veronicas area at night unless you're into your clubbing!

Playa Fanabe is, I think the nicest part of Americas, the beach at the bottom is fantastic GOLDEN sand, there is a great range of shops that go on a grid just off the beach, if you enjoy jogging, you can run for miles as at the bottom it is mostly flat and there is a path along the beach towards the expensive hotels. Everything is new looking, and the young 18-30's don't go there. Just watch out for the timeshares on the way to the beach, if you walk seperate past them, they will ignore you
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
  • We have been to Hotel Isla Bonita three years in a row. My sister has been living near there for seven years and recommended it to us. We went as two families age ranges from 45 years to 1 year and all had a great time. Did not hire a car....walking distance slightly downhill to beach...this is the quieter more up market end of Playa de las Americas and we weren't aware of the more rowdy club scene at the other end.
There are two sister hotels, Isla Bonita and Abinque but when you are there it seems like its all one. Advantage is you get pools on both sides and a variety of places to sit and chill etc.
Hotel rooms are apartment style with seperate bedroom, sofa beds in living area full bathroom and also have a small kitchenette( no pots/kettle though).Rooms clened daily and fresh towels as long as you leave dirty ones on bathroom floor.
You get tickets which you take down each morning and they give you fresh beach/pool towels.Found all staff very friendly/helpful. The cabaret has always been outdoors when I've visited, so smoking not an issue. Good entertainment every evening about 9pm. Kids disco before that.Great entertainer who also gathers kids together during day for games in pool and in sports area. Small gym was ok and indoor sports court.Food all day long in plenty and lots of variety. There are goods shops and restaurants near by. Don't worry, you've booked a good one! have you checked out their website? https://www.hotelesislabonita.com
  • Thanks for all the tips, I'm really excited now, think I'll get a organised trip up mount teide don't wanna fall asleep on the way down. Does anyone know if the entertainment is outside in September? We're both smokers so I'm hoping it is,
For some reason I can't get on their website it keeps saying I don't have permission?
Is there any other places worth a vist?
I'd be happy to sunbath for the whole visit but the other half burns easily and we've got a two year old to keep entertained so no chance there
