Need help! Phone and Broadband in Norfolk

I'm currently on BT Talk Together with Local Calls (hardly ever use my landline, just for incoming mainly and of course for connecting to my broadband) which costs me on average £25 a month. My internet provider is Orange (formerly freeserve when I signed up, then wanadoo) and that costs £17.99 a month. So in total I'm spending about £515 a year which is too much. I'm peeved that I'm paying £25 a month for a service which I hardly use. And the broadband service I'm on is a measly 1Meg.
Anyway, was interested in the TalkTalk recommendation from Martin (though a bit wary of the length of contract), but, being in Norwich, can't access their free broadband, so it would be £29.99 for both phone and BB (rather than 20.99). This would still save me about £155 a year.
Thought about the alternative, Plusnet (@ 25.99 a month) as when my friends signed up a year ago they were fantastic...but I've just been reading about how awful they've become so I'm really put off.
Can anyone make a recommendation for me? We use the internet every evening (4-6 hours tops) but have no idea of our usage as orange have no tools to monitor this. I'm guessing we'd be under a 2GB limit as we don't download anything bigger than the odd trailer and music - no full length movies or heavy file-sharing. Also, we only use the phone in the evenings - no international usage, mainly geographical numbers with about 15-20 minutes calls to mobiles a week (t-mobile and virgin)
Does anyone know if I can keep my existing phone number as well?

At the moment it may be too soon to switch to another provider unless you can find one that will let you move after a few months without charging you, as the cost of broadband is due to fall as more players reduce their costs.
For your phone service, you should drop the package back to BT Together 1, at £11 per month, then CPS (carrier pre-select) your calls to Primus 2, this will give you for no monthly fee free evening and weekend calls to 01 and 02 numbers (90 mins per call free).
You could also sign up to 1899 and use them for daytime calls, UK 01 and 02 calls for just 3 pence for the entire call. Also sign up to their sister service 18185 and use them for calls to mobiles, 2p/min weekends and 5p/min weekdays.
There is no change to your phone number, your line rental/incoming calls/service remains with BT.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
BT Option 1 ....
.... with CPS - Primus Planet Talk - Saver 2 (Free) - Free evenings and weekend calls 0800 036 3839
... and Use Mobile Saver add on for cheaper mobile calls.
Use 1899.com for any daytime landline calls.
And finally ....
AOL Broadband .... £14.99 a month, first month free. £45 quidco cashback. Free wireless router. 12 month contract = £10 a month.
So .... £21 a month (BT + AOL) with CPS Planet Talk (free).0 -
