Thank you, I'll go there.
A quick question: AlienRIK doesn't seem to like TuneUp's Registry Cleaner, says I'll regret using it, yet recommended I run Glary Utilities' 1-Click, which also has a Registry Cleaner..what's the difference?0 -
I don't mind long-winded, that's what happens when you over-analyse stuff hehe, a good attribute to have in techie-land. Thanks for the link0

I appreciate all your help. Yesterday looking at Spyware Blaster (in between all the scans) it had definitions "undoing" themselves, which has been happening for a while. Hopefully I'm ok now after all the scans, etc.
Dr web will have reset the HOSTS file (Assuming you clicked ok). Which would have undone everything spybots immunise feature and spywareblaster will have put in there:idea:0 -

You seem to have directed the question away from me there but ill answer that anyways.
ALL registry cleaners can be dangerous. CCLEANERS is the only one im aware of that has never made a mess of things (It has in the past removed items it shouldnt have, but nothing major)
I asked you to run Glary 'once' to see if it sorted out any problems (Im not a fan of using it, but its pretty good at finding things when my backs to the wall)
TUNEUP is set to run automatically. If its running at the wrong time (in the middle of an update say) then your asking for trouble. Thats without the fact your seriously overusing a registry cleaner by running it as often as it does.:idea:0 -
I don't mind who answers the question! TuneUp's not on here any more anyway, but it's useful to know for the future. It's better to explain your opinion about registry cleaners, so thanks for clarifying.
It does pose the question, why have registry cleaners in the first place if they can cause such a mess?0 -

Over a period of time, registries do become 'clogged with dirt' to coin a phrase
There isnt really a 'need' for them as such. But running one every 6 months say (Id only EVER use ccleaner generally), can help give a computer a bit of a spring clean.:idea:0 -
Just incase you haven't already Avast is on version 5 now so probably worth updating.0
