Blueyonder Broadband, Webstar Modem, Linksys Router wireless access.

OK so I've asked about this in a previous thread. But I still can't set up my wireless network. I really do need a step by step wireless networking for 'extreme' dummies.
Someone must have the same set up and hopefully they've managed to get it working. I've asked the networking boys at work but they just tell me there shouldn't be a problem. However there is, I'm on the verge of binning the idea so help at this late stage would be greatly appreciated.

what point have you got to and what is your problem.

Have you bought teh stuff and connected etc., can your PC see your wireless router etc.?
  • Digging out your previous thread, how did you get on with the advice there?

Fair comment chippy but I was hoping to start from scratch.
Broadband comes into the webstar modem.
My desktop is connected to the modem via a usb provided by Blueyonder. Internet works fine with this set up.
I just need to know what should be connected to what in order to set up the wireless. I tried following the Linksys install to the letter with no success.

reading your old thread, can't be sure but instead of plugging the ethernet cable into the 'internet' port on the router what happens if you put it into one of the 4 other ports instead
  • first off the webstar modems are worse than kak.

Try an persuade them to give you the motorola sb series , they can allocate automatically the i.p's of the machines on the router , say its incompatible with your usb webcam.

The modem SHOULDNT be into a pc at all if your planning on networking it , your better off having the modem connected to the router as it should be said in the docs for it.Then you connect the hardwired nic's to the router , usually up to four , and if need be allocate each one a STATIC ip , usually 192.168.0.x , x= a unique number up to a max of 255.

Each machine that ISNT connected by wire needs a wireless nic , I know it may sound obvious to some but ive seen some crackers do worse , including buying blank cds to copy tapes on stereos.

Thanks for the advice, I've emailed them and given them your account of things. I refuse to ring as they charge a pound a minute, as if they don't charge me enough.

Did try again tonight with limited success. Appeared to set up ok but complained about the connecrion not being good enough for internet so I gave up.

One of the lads at work thinks it could be my network cards. Is this possible?

Just rang technical support at telewest. Guy says that all there modems are capable of doing everything, must be my router. If I want to change my modem they will have to send an engineer out, if he can't find anything wrong with the modem it will cost me £75. Told him it may be better if they come and take all their stuff away and I go back to BT.

Just rang the techies at Blueyonder who said they didn't deal with networking issues, told me to ring the pound a minute boys. No way will I do that so I think I might can them all together.
