Sound bit of advice there,
Never assume a businessman is going to have any morals, or sleep any less due to someone Else's problems. As in this case the caravan owner is NOT a member of butlins staff, is NOT an entertainments manager, and is NOT responsible for any Butlins events that are or are NOT available. It his neither his job to report it, his duty, nor does he need to be morally obligated to mention ANYTHING about Butlins, other than his caravan is on their site.
One might expect the use of the Butlins facilities to be available to anyone residing in a caravan on their camp, however one would not expect them to be inclusive to them, as Butlins also is not compassionate enough to give free passes out to the caravan dwellers over their Butlins Chalet dwellers, no matter how many young kids are with them.
Butlins are neither Morally obligated to do so, its how they run their business, its how they can make profit, no doubt Butlins staff also sleep soundly at night when turning down caravan residents to some free Butlins entertainment who dont have any passes.
Presumably the caravan IS on a Butlins site - presumably the OP didnt book the caravan via the Butlins site, or through Butlins inclusively,I dare say Butlins dont even advertise this caravan on their site, also presumably because they would want people to book one of their chalets instead. Its how they too run a business.
Welcome to the real yet cruel World of business etiquette. I am sure he slept soundly asleep over it, but to side with his compassion, he has refunded, NOT MANY WOULD, should you wish to take them to court for a refund based on their "moral" grounds, they would quite rightly laugh at you.
The Onus of caravan owner, is to fill the caravan in order to make a profit out of it, there are no laws that say he needs to have compassion and morals when making a deal, so long as the caravan he is renting is fit for the purpose (i.e. a safe place to dwell), he has no other duties that MUST be adhered to. Ergo another silent nights sleep for him.
The onus is on the OP, to have spent less than two minutes googling "date" and "location" to find any events that may hinder or prove an asset to their holiday.
Some info first.- Yes, caravan is on butlins site but privately owned.
- If your staying in caravan you get a pass to use all the facilities.
- It was advertised as inclusive of all the entertainment.
I also understand that he didnt have to refund me. To be honest, I was going to ask for 50% back but he offered 100% so I wasnt going to argue. Fair play to him there.
Whether he should have owned up or not it seems is a personal opinion. Maybe a decent businessman would or should have kept quite like he did. I dont know.
Personally, I wouldnt do it but perhaps I'm never going to be rich !!!!! Hopefully, I wont be going to hell for being a git either !!:D:D:D
(Then again, I didnt attend the Spring Harvest thing either)

Members of my church have just returned from Minehead and they had a wonderful time, with lots for the kids to do, fellowship and wonderful food. Also had no problem with a bottle of wine after a good days companionship!
Shame OP did not bother to realise they hired a caravan!0 -
Paul, I understand where you are coming from and Im pleased that you got your money back.
If I am paying money, for the use of a caravan and all the caravan park's entertainment and facilities, unless I'm told otherwise, that is what I would expect!
I don't see why you should have had to look into it, or googled the location and dates ~ you didn't get what you paid for, so a refund was due.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
But "technically" and "legally" the op did get what they paid for, a caravan, on a butlins site, with a free pass to all the "available" attractions that Butlins have.
On that date in particular, yes I would have checked to see what special events or what theme were Butlins gonna have on that date. Especially if the holiday is for my Children. Postman Pat might not appeal to them for example.
Had I booked the caravan from Butlins, I would feel entitled to a refund, as ultimately are responsible for the entertainment, not least the responsibility for their paying guests.
Booking a private caravan for Butlins, I would expect the caravan owner assumes I have looked into the dates. as its not his job to update me on any Butlins attractions, that are plastered all over the Butlins internet, the Butlins brochures, and possibly Bill Boards up n down the area.
The fact he refunded you is commendable, but I dont think it was your Entitlement as legally, you wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. I may not agree with the idea, but facts are facts whether we like it or not.
Its probably one of the main reasons, I have never found myself stuck in the middle of Rave Nation Concerts, or a Jehovah Convention Gathering, I dont think I would have to ask the Caravan Owner for any butlins events good or bad as those are the very things I would always check up first.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
