trouble is that for a single person to make this stuff all that's available is industry standard components. a dodgy digital watch they'll design once and then mass produce by the million in China.

If this was started as a joke (I don't think so), I can't help but feel that it was misplaced.

I think you are forgetting the purpose of this board, and where it is. It is not a 'techie' board buried in the middle of a developers, or network admins forum. It is a board that fellow members of MSE can come and ask techie questions, no matter how simple they are.

A lot of times, a few people may read a question in here and wonder how someone doesn't know something so simple. They are asking because they don't know, and this board was set up for them get help in.

A few people may see the joke in this thread. I think it could appear insulting to a lot of people. This board is open to every member of MSE, not only to those that work in IT.
