Thanks for your reply. I don't think I mind being out of date by not having 3d tv - and I do need a PVR, which I am prepared to wait a bit longer for.

Do you have any idea of the likely cost for the Humax Freeview HD PVR?

....Though now you've mentioned 3D TV, you've given me another reason to sit on my hands a bit longer.....

I'm guessing upwards of £230 at launch.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

You could sit on them forever.

Do you really want 3D TV, I do not.;)

And from what I've read they will be expensive. Two to three grand apparently. So I guess I will get the tv and wait for the HD PVR.

I've got a freeview TV and A Humax freesat pvr, this way you get the best of both worlds as some channels aren't available on both. You would need a satellite dish for freesat or just plug in one installed by sky.

To get 3D you will need a 3D TV AND a capable tuner. AFAIK only Sky and Virgin have mentioned 3D TV and I doubt it's coming to freesat / freeview HD anytime soon - if at all. Basically, if you don't want to pay for a subscription you can write off 3D (and save yourself a packet)

Don't get too downhearted though. The Sky advertss for 3D football etc you can see at the cinemas look (IMO) awful. Yes, they're 3D, but the picture quality is very poor. Perhaps these aren't representative of the quality you may get down the line? Either road, I've seen three 3D films at the cinema now, and I must say after the initial excitement it's left me a little underwhemed.
    Hello.

Get yourself a Thomson topuptv box.
It's freeview+ and can be had for less than £70 and records all the shows you watch while your out. It's easy to use and has masses of space to save loads of tv shows.
All this HD, 3D nonsense is a load of old tripe.
A good television 1080p and a freeview+ box will be great and last a lifetime.

It's like 3d TV is a new thing or something! They've pushed it several times over and over years ago. The red and green glasses on the covers of magazines etc. It's great and all when you go to the cinema and put on the stupid glasses, but they expect you to do this at home?! I don't want to do that, and I don't want to pay £100 extra for each pair! Until they get rid of the glasses and the requirement to watch the screen head-on it's just not good enough.
