I believe you're referring to the 'Cambridge Audio Symphony 200'. What's the difference between the Symphony 100, 300 and 400. Would it be noticeable with the kit I've chosen?
I honestly don't think so. I didn't notice the 100. It;s decent cable for a budget system like this.
There seems to be a few at this price, could you please confirm which one you were referring to?
This one. It;s the replacement for the Atlantic cable (so should be better (?) and you should keep cable length as short as is practical so the 1m should suffice.
One other question - the present won't be given for roughly 6 months. Is it worth waiting to see what deals are around at the time? Does hi fi technology move as quickly as say TVs?
Not nearly as quicklt as TV technology, but still fairly quick. There are likely to be better deals in 6 months as for the same money, you might get some more recent gear. A lot of the cheaper good stuff is end of line and end of line will be different (and newer) 6 months from now.

Don't rule out a mini system either. Also good speakers & cables can make all the difference. How big is your room ? Do you have neighbours? If you have Sky or Cable then you can also run the set top box through the hi-fi as well.

So much choice so little money!

Have a look in the clearance section. Looks like some cracking kit in there. You will need to google the models for tech specs.

P.S All my kit comes from Richer, big fans of them. If buying a CD player make sure you check that it will play all the various brands of CD's. (Go to the store with samples) For some reason Philips are very fussy whereas Sony & Panasonic will play everything

I could be wrong here but isn't this cable for a 3.5mm jack-2RCA, connecting an MP3 player to an amp? As I'm buying a CD player I believe I'll need a 2RCA-2RCA interconnect i.e. this. Is this right?

You aren't wrong, I clicked on the wrong cable. :o

You need the best value, decent brand, shortest practical length stereo phono to phono cable you can find (which is likely to be a Cambridge Audio cable).

That's great. Thanks guys for all your help. The system I intend to buy is...

    Cambridge Audio A1
    Wharfedale Diamond 9.0
    TANGENT CDP50

    Cabling:
    CAMBRIDGE AUDIO SYMPHONY 200
    CAMBRIDGE AUDIO ATLANTIC 1M

That's a decent system for the money (and upgradeable too).
