Hi,
I'm looking to buy a hi-fi and TV on a budget (moving in pressies).
Hi Fi:
I'm wondering if it'd be better to buy separates e.g. System 1 here? I'm not really convinced two little tiny speakers will cut it however I'd probably say the budget was £150 - £200 at most.
What are my options? Is it just an all in one jobbie from Dixons?
TV:
I'm also looking to buy a TV on a budget, again £150 - £200. I appreciate this is a very limited budget... Would my best bet a TV from Richersounds e.g here?
Thanks

Why not spend your whole budget on the HiFi, then you won't have the expense of a TV licence every year......0

For the hi-fi, do some listening before you start buying. Find a decent dealer (preferably someone who also does second-hand kit) with a demonstration room and listen to different sorts of equipment, so you know what you like.
And for most hi-fi, second hand is as good as new and a fraction of the price.0 -

Nothing wrong with Wharfedale Diamond speakers as long as they are sited properly0

I'm starting to think when factoring in CD players + cables etc. buying separates might be pushing the budget a little too much so an all-in-one system is the only way to go. Suggestions welcome for these if possible.
This system looks good to a naive eye...0 -
The Richer Sounds system 1 linked to is a great wee system for the money, but relies on you having an iPod as there is no CD player, tuner or other music source. If you need a CD player, you'd need to factor in another £40 for Richer Sounds cheapest one. If you have an iPod, no real problem.
Any of Richer Sounds sub £200 TVs from the major brands are pretty good buys. I'd prefer Samsung, Sony or Panasonic but most are fine if you avoid Visual Innovations or UMC (I don't know anything bad about these brands, but nor do I know anything good so cannot recommend them). There's love in this world for everyone. I wonder if Richer Sounds would do an even better deal if I bought the TV and separates in one go...
You'll need speaker cable and a phono (or RCA if you're American) lead to connect the CD player. Richer Sounds do Cambridge Audio speaker cable from £1.49 per metre and a Cambridge Audio phono lead for £9.99.
If you don't need the iPod dock, it retails at £14.99 so a phono lead and 3 metres of cable seems a fair exchange.
At those prices, I think you'd be lucky to get further discount, but nothing ventured ...There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

I believe you're referring to the 'Cambridge Audio Symphony 200'. What's the difference between the Symphony 100, 300 and 400. Would it be noticeable with the kit I've chosen?Cambridge Audio phono lead for £9.99.
One other question - the present won't be given for roughly 6 months. Is it worth waiting to see what deals are around at the time? Does hi fi technology move as quickly as say TVs?0
