heehee Toots. that was NLIDs mini move describing things as they will be in december this year. lol. may be a bit surreal when we all start posting ours and it looks like we've all achieved shed loads overnight.
Glad munchki is ok and great that you have got your visit booked. I love train travel (most of the time).
Hi Rosie. I'm enjoying thinking them up so far. got a bit worried if they were ok at one point then remembered why I was doing them and that I was really just sharing something I was doing for me so others could join in if they wanted. so wasn't worried anymore.

Hi All (if anyone is still up and about).

Had a great day today - planted a row of roses my dad bought for me this morning. Did a "Ladies What Lunch" with my mum, sis and SIL. Went to Pizza Express and had the Leggaro (sp?) pizza which was only 7 points and was delicious. My sis is on WW too, my SIL is doing Slimming World and my mum hardly eats anything anyway, so was an interesting combination!

Done lots of washing this afternoon and a bit of shopping and all in all thoroughly enjoyed my day. So my mini-move was really done for the full day!

Tomorrow is ebay day, or at least Turbolister day. I'm really pleased about the timing of the free listing days this time - I'm on holiday this week, so for once I should have time to get everything on there loaded ready for Saturday.

Jo - my apologies, I didn't get to the post office to post your book, but it will get sent this week, scouts honour :p

Good to see you back Toots - I hadn't thought about it before but I think I've been guilty of this so many times. I find something I like doing and immediately my "planning" head goes on and I start to think how I could make a business out of it and before I know it, it is up in the loft gathering dust as I've lost all my joy in it. Definitely food for thought.

Weigh in day tomorrow, so off to bed before I give in to the sudden urge I have to eat my way through the contents of the freezer.

    Night all.

    Hi Joey,

Glad you had a good day - im still about and will be for about another 45 mins whilst I finish this latest feature - then its off to the land of the nod for me (thank god)

Been up since 9:30 this morning (I overslept - should have been up at 9) - but that dont tell the story of how DS decided he was going to want a bot at my bed time (2am) so OH does it in our room as per his routine - and keeps me up till 2:45 - Then DS decides as all of us are up it must be playtime till 4am! Im knackered!

    morning everyone.
well its election day today. gulp. wonder what the outcome of thats going to be.
Joey don't worry about not posting the book. its really kind of you to give it to me at all.
my mini move has really got me thinking about exactly what I want to do with this challenge as I am not sure anymore either.
still on the diet front I have been having a large glass of water when I get up instead of diving straight into my normal cycle of lots of cups of tea. might not lose me lots of weight butmight start to help on the energy front.
My mum is moving into her granny flat next friday so we have a lot to get ready before then.

    OK, December 2010 it is.

In the first budget of the new government, they raised the VAT limit for small businesses by 100% and a lot of my problems went away. The end.

    Not good enough?

    OK, December 2010 take 2.

Can't get my head round a story like NLID's so I'll play it straight.

I need to grow my business as much as possible without going over the VAT limit. If I have to go into VAT that is a mahoosive hike on my fees and I will lose a lot of custom and it is a pain to get deregistered.

Before the recession I was chugging along with a small safety margin between me and the limit. Since turnover went down about £4k last tax year I now have a somewhat bigger safety net. In September I want to put on an extra class, which would raise turnover about £3.5-4K py, so VAT becomes an issue again. Because it's done on a rolling year, not a tax year, and it will take a while for the recession figures to "roll out" of the calculations I have a little bit of time before it becomes an issue, but it's there in the background.

One way of staying within the limit is reducing the number of weeks we work. I have the potential to add an extra week onto the summer holiday, which would reduce costs by about £1K. It would reduce turnover of course, but with more children in class the other classes would have become more profitable.

My magic figure that I look to attain is 80% full (any more than that is a real headache, any less and profits aren't great). With 24 classes a week that would be 460 kids, which I'd be looking at having about this time next year, so by December I'd be looking at ticking over at somewhere around 430-435. I have sketched out how I expect each class to look over the next year and I'm coming out at about 453 average, so 460 peak should be well possible.

A nice increase in the VAT limit would be very nice and take away a lot of my number juggling, but unlikely in the economic environment, I fear.

ETA : all this depends on avoiding the "double dip" and the new government (whoever they turn out to be) handling things well, as if things take a turn for the worse again all votes are off and it becomes survival again rather than expansion.

Hey 2cats thats great. really interesting how the figures dance around the vat and the challenge to make it profitable but stay within the limits too.
There kind of is a point of doing it as if it has already happened and pinning it up somewhere. or just taking the key points out and pinning them up somewhere.
    it might look like this.
    december 2010.
We now have 1 extra class per week which has increased turnover by 4k.
The summer holiday now lasts x weeks and we have 24 classes with a total of 435 children. We have increased turnover and remained within the VAT limit.
We have a thriving facebook community.
We are on target for our 2011 goals.
    or something like that.
not that you have to do it like that at all its just it feeds a different message to your brain over time
