tozza, you are unlikely to win any argument for loss of bargain whether on ebay or against any high street retailier.

The £4.95 TV and DVD fiasco last year is a perfect example of this. Two major UK retaliers advertised TV and DVD for less than a fiver, took people's money and confirmed receipt, then refused to honour sale. To add to the insult some people didn't even get their money back for a few weeks.

  • Can anyone help with how to get an Ebay company, Abacus-Uk, to respond to emails and returned packages of faulty inks? Also how do you post a warning on ebay that after feedback forum there is nowwhere to add comments regarding quality of goods once opened and used.

I'm not sure what the "rules" would say about how this might be offered, but the only thing I could think of is that I know there is a mystery shop company that does the MacDonalds visits, in which you get paid to have an extra value meal. Maybe this auction gives you their details or something? Like I said though, it doesn't sound like something that would be allowed within the ebay rules, so I'm probably totally wrong lol

You can post a follow-up comment although this cannot have any negative/positive flag.

You can pull their contact details (name of seller & phone number). You can use a second id to try to buy something, offer to pay by cheque - assuming they accept them - which will give you a contact address.

Put your complaint in writing, give a clear deadline and course of action that you expect. It works every time! Send the letter Special Delivery & mark it on the outside of the envelope DO NOT REDI. REFER TO LINE MANAGER (a special note for postie)

I recently bid for a new Pentax camera lens from a company in Hong Kong with impeccable feedback and record... I won the lens for 99p ! Post and packing and insurance was £39 - no problem on a lens worth nearly £200 in this country . I paid immediately with Paypal and received confirmation of delivery within three working days - a tracking number with UPS was included. After 10 days they emailed to see if I had received the lens - I replied no and they promised to investigate . I traced the number through UPS and it wasn`t even a real code . The company then offered me my money back whilst they investigated the "loss" - I said I had won and wanted the lens - surely that was why I paid insurance !

At this stage you should have refused seller's refund and contacted UPS to confirm the tracing number was bogus. Lodge a "non performing seller" complaint with eBay as this can actually shut down the seller for good. You have 45 days from payment to file a complaint with PayPal for non-delivery.

Paypal ended my dispute because I had not lost anything!

PayPal are only concerned with the payment and delivery aspect of the transaction, and once they refunded you their job finished. Don't confuse PayPal and eBay as they are separate companies.

Ebay are "investigating" !!!! I suppose that with the clout that the company has , my little bit of revenue is unimportant but it completely goes against the Ebay ethos and smacks of the worst type of con I have come across on the site.

As previously suggested - file a "non-performing seller" complaint with eBay so they will shut down the seller for good. You can also leave suitable feedback citing "non shipment of 99p Pentax lens and bogus UPS tracking" within 90 days from the auction closing. Remember to keep any feedback factual (go easy on the exclamation marks) and to the point otherwise it'll come off as "whiney".

Hi and thanks for your thread,

believe me I tried all of the suggested actions - when I refused to accept the refund they just put it back into my Paypal account anyway !
I communicated with about 3 separate persons at complaint hq and got sympathy but no tea or real help.
I put in the complaint and they suspended the company for a few days but allowed them back when the refund went through.
At the end of the statutory period the complaint lapsed and I was allowed to do no more except write a "disgusted" letter to which I had no reply and moan whenever I get the chance.
I might add I have an ebay score of over 110 and never had a problem before or since on purchases ranging from £3500 for a car to 1p for a pair of sunglasses.
Oh and UPS were "really helpful" ....Not

  • The problem is, essentially, you are complaining to the landlord of the pub in which these deals take place. Where complaints are isolated nothing will ever happen. If enough people get together and have a cohesive plan of action, ebay might consider doing something. I have experience :)

At the end of the day sellers pay fees, not buyers. Fees are what keeps ebay in the black. Now & then they will draw attention to some worthy act of slinging off an untrustworthy merchant, but in the main it is not in their favour to stop accepting payments. Revenue protection.

    Hi there,

After a winning bid of £19.99 for a pair of Ray ban sunglasses on ebay and paying through paypal with my credit card. I then received an email alert from ebay saying that the person using the sellers account was not genuine and that I should not make the payment or cancel any actioned payment. However my paypal payment was actioned instantly and I received the item yesterday signed for recorded delivery. The sunglasses after checking them are clearly fakes. I would assume that I have some come back if ebay has sent me an email alert and withdrawn the item from the 'items I have won on ebay'. I have contacted ebay by email and paypal but have not heard anything yet. I would assume that I am buying safely when ebay advertises buyer protection, as do paypal and lastly I though that credit card companies cover fraudlent internet goods?

Help, not sure who to contact in the first instance - to go about getting a refund, I know it is not for a large amount of money but it is the principal!

    cheers,

    joolski.
