If the house is being bought for you then what are you spending >£900 a month on? If Chloe wasn't with you, how would she afford to live?0
-
If she wasnt with me then she would still live with her parents and the house would be let to someone else or may not even be bought.
That money includes rent, council tax tv lisence , water, electric, food etc0 -
So she wouldn't be eating etc? Is she not contributing anything?0

Yeah but i am renting a 3 bedroom house for £500 pm.
which on its own is great, she is trying her hardest to find a job but there is nothing out there for the time she has.0 -
If you are now renting a property at £500pm, how would it be *more* expensive to live in a free house that your girlfriend's stepdad has bought for you? Surely the £500 you are currently spending on rent would get saved? Confused...0

basically i had to move out of my mothers house in december i have been living at my girlfriends parents house since december on a basis that id move out when i pull my self together, in the mean time her step father has inherited money and is looking at buying a property to secure his money, and has offered me and my girlfriend and offer that cant be resisted, to move into this house he buys and pay him a small about of 500pm which is very cheap for a small three bed property for rent around here. obiously with only my wages i will not be able to afford this including bills alone and need help in how/ if possible i can get maybe housing benefits etc.
PLEASE HELP0 -
p.s my girlfriend will be able to claim EMA(education, maitenence allowence) but obiously this wont support much.0

Presumably there is extra space for a lodger or two to release the burden on you a bit more?
I don't think she'd qualify for housing benefit where the landlord is a family member
There is a website called 'entitled to' or similar from which you could get an idea on what you might be entitled to but don't hold out for housing benefit!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

mse benefit checker
you could try using the mse benefits checker? i've never used it as i live on the isle of man but the tools on this website are generally really good.0 -
Ah. If her stepfather wants you to pay £500 per month, and that £500 is below market rent, you won't get housing benefit.
Other considerations aside (the HB people aren't overly keen on renting from relatives at the best of times, though there isn't an outright ban on it) you are talking about a "contrived tenancy". To have any chance of getting housing benefit, you'd have to show that the tenancy was on a commercial basis. I'm also far from convinced that a young couple without children would get sufficient housing benefit to allow them to rent a three bedroom house.
You could have a look at http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx and see if you can see anything on there that helps you.
TBH I think you'd be better looking for something smaller. I don't want to come over all "when I was a lass" on you, but there aren't many couples in your position who can remotely afford a three bedroom house. A one bedroom flat is likely to be better; council tax cheaper, bills cheaper, and without the hassle of mixing family and money.0
